Spoke with some airlines yesterday and there is a good chance that you could have a carry on tube up to about one metre or so in size as carry on. As long as it fits in the overhead locker. It all depends on the airline and the check in chick/bloke on the day as well as how full the aircraft is. As long as your are polite, repectful and arrive with heaps of time before check in then you have more chance of success.
The only airline we see issues with is TigerAir. After all a budget airline is all about money. If in doubt book your oversize items in on line as you'll save around 40%. General rule is one suitable size carry on and a laptop/handbag.
Dai, we predominantly have B737s here on out domestic routes to major hubs. Only Jetstar use the A320 and bin loading. As the B737 is floor loaded there is a bit more room for oversize articles. The straps in those bays are more of a gate than a tie down, so I would expect a bit more movement on a rough landing. Of course there are prop jobs for regionals, a handful of A330s and small buisjets like the F100/B717.
The international airlines use a broad mixture of A330/B777 and the newer A350 and B787 are coming online. The NZ legs also use the B737.
Have I put you to sleep yet?

Nice try Stan. As long as it is empty.
I spoke with one of my favourite Jetstar check in chicks last night and their limit for both domestic and international is 0.89m for carriage of tubes in the cabin. They even have a measuring device to ensure it is within limits. Too big and it goes in the hold for which they usually won't charge extra.

the only issue besides the weight accumulation is the baggage limit count
most air lines have a strict limit these days *(around aussie) depending on your travel carrier benefits ...once had a silver virgin card entitling me to 3 bags 32 kg limit for free
but pre purchasing extra can be quite cheep , don't leave it to book in times , recently an extra bag cost me $62 ...pre booked .. was about $15

Have you ever loaded an RJ-100/BAE-146? Floor loaded, hands and knees, no room to kneel up - I HATED the feckin' things, especially after the day when I knelt on a spike where the floor was peeling and it went right though my knee. 737s have a bit more room in them, but not much.TacKler wrote:Dai, we predominantly have B737s here on out domestic routes to major hubs. Righto, I'm back in the Brissie area and the calendar is free from today thru the 1st of Movember, bar the week round the 13th/14th of October when I ride down to the Kozzie. If anyone in the SE Qld/ Northern Rivers region wants to do a weekend day or overnight ride somewhere. I'll be fiddling with minor details on the red RS today then doing day rides on my local roads this week. Bloody hell I've got too many spares in my shed to sort through. Must make a list (bits of plastic trim, indicators (but not RS front), tail lights, engine covers, rubber trim, all manner of grommets, etc) to see if any OZs need this or that. Cheers.charlie99 wrote:crikey !! that has to be a win ...eh dazza ?
good to hear .
I will be back in brisvegas on the weekend after all ...work commitments have changed ...yet again .
perhaps I should collect the sKroll - Banner and pass it on when we all next meet at the new England tablelands meet in a couple of months for further adventures south ?
but before then, there are a few locals that are new to the forum since the last appearance of the banner up- this ways
namely martin , reg , black brick , Mathew , and a few others that haven't seen it at all ...yet
perhaps a local meet in the coming weeks could be a good idea?
do we have any events - swap meets on the calendar guys ?
or perhaps just a bbq up at the lookout ,,,before Mt Nebo ...might be in order ...again ill bring snags, bacon , rolls and drinks ...? anyone ????
if I get a decent response perhaps Saturday week 29th ...and twb can pass the banner and meet the new guys ?
unless dazza is up for a local ride before then ?
glorious sounds good on sunday 23rd ??

The sKroll has no sooner made its way back to Oz , and it seems plans are under way for another global pursuit.
Whilst resting up here in Australia , the skroll catches up with some new and not so new forumers .
Next stop is the Karuah River Rally to hopefully see our mates Malcoops , Mick F and possibly Michael Sydney .
The sKroll then has plans to return to Ricardo ( Komando Alicante) in Spain for the Kedada Alicante , which is held in early March.
Following its time in Spain , we have had some chat with Andreas Esterhammer, who is conducting a K1 Convention in Germany during May 2019, and the sKroll should be making its way there to share in the festivities.

Okay, so the Banner/Skroll is just flatout an amazing beast to have jetted from continent to continent uniting us all in our love and affection for the mighty K. The morning I signed the Banner was an affirmation of the good that was to to be found on the internet and just a helluva good way to share a breakfest among comrades in arms - thank you!

I'll start it rolling.duck wrote:It would help to know specific cities/towns where it has traveled.
I received it in Summer of 2016 via the post and it stayed round Seattle, Tacoma and Portland Oregon during its time with me. Recall you and I met with NVBoy from BC in Gig Harbor for a quick signing. Next it was off to The Lucky Country (The Sunburned Country) in October of '16, via Hawaii, landing in Brisbane Queensland. We travelled down along the east coast of OZ through the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, and Coffs Harbour, to near Newcastle New South Wales and handed it off to Ed.
In August of 2018 I retrieved it from Crazy Frog in Woodstock New Brunswick and took it along with my brother Jo through Maine (Augusta), the White Mountains of New Hampshire (Concord) and into central (Pepperell) and western Massachusetts (Lenox). From there I travelled directly across upstate New York (Albany, Syracuse) and met with several forum members in Youngstown, crossing into Niagara Falls, Canada with Woodie and Robmack, heading up and over Lake Ontario to Ontario, then over the Great Lakes via Sault Ste Marie, Wawa, Nipigon, and Thunder Bay. Next was basically highway 17 to Winnipeg Manitoba, highway 1 to Regina Saskatchewan (which I can say without starting to stutter ), Medicine Hat & Lethbridge Alberta, then dropping down to Sand Point Idaho to escape the wildfire smoke, Spoklahoma Washington was next, followed by Cle Elum and Tacoma.
In September of '18 I flew back Down Undah over the Mighty Pacific, again landing in Honolulu (Waikiki) for a night and day, then handed it and the other banner to Charlie99 in Brissie Queensland.
I don't think I missed anything, but someone please pipe up if they recall something else.
A long and circuitous journey indeed.

Look to the right of the screen (forum's portal) where it's shown who is online. Touch, or highlight your name. Next screen, down the bottom, you'll see what the date was when you officially registered. Fun for the whole fambly.Dai wrote:December 13, 2014 - Kilkeel, Northern Ireland. No worries, glad to enlighten. It's a cool piece of info. I note mine says early 2012 when in fact I was off the forum for a while, having originally signed on in possibly late '09. Back then you felt you knew every member. It's grown into quite a community. Sumpin for everywun.Dai wrote:Thanks TWB. I think in fact this signing was at the Newgrange megalithic site, a fairly historic location. We did meet up in Dublin and Bill travelled pillion on my RT

the banners will soon be visiting the Karuah rally once more in the coming weeks.
Then they are off to Spain for the amazing Kedada Alicante.
Official postage weight of the banners = 2.00kg

The banners had a successful outing to the Karuah River Rally earlier this month .
Al even managed to align it with his outfit .
I have heard from Ricardo ( Komando Alicante) that the banners are now resting with him in readiness for the Kedada Alicante , which takes place on the first weekend in March . One of the biggest K events on the globe .
