I contacted Andy b before  the far cairn about possibly traveling together  but he couldn't make it,    we have swapped numbers and I hope to catch up with him for a ride soon . Andy b knows Halo so we may meet up  . I know a few others who will be joining up , with a bit of luck we may get a bit of a Melbourne group happening .   AB

Lets hope this does become a group.... Ours works well despite the distances, admittedly we are a rather small island and but some of us are 250 miles from each other and get to make a meet up. We do keep it all fairly informal but the atmosphere is great.

Sounds like a new thread happening , great work Aus, let us know how it all goes
. the banner should be available in Nov.We'll try and get it to Alby , Nic and Blakey and other Northerners before Xmas.

Following a very successful Kongregation of K's in Far Kairn  ( Far Cairn)  for the 30 Year Celebration, the Aussie Krew walked away with a few memorable momentos.
Congrats to those who entered their K's and won trophies for their proud ownership.
whilst at the Rally , the Banner seen behind the K line up was placed up for auction. A quick rousing of Krew , and it was decided to place our own bid .
no holds barred , it was a jostling between Mr Cramps and the Krew. We won .
The funds from the auction were in benefit of the MARI organisation ( Motorcycle Rehabilitation Incentive) , so it was a privilege to be of assistance to the cause.

Proud k owners , far left - Gaz and his 1100LT      centre - Smithy and his RS

Suggestions from Charlie , were to get more forum members to be given the chance to add their signature to the banner , including our friends overseas.
So the banner brings a new adventure to the forum and K folk alike.

AND I stalk ebay and other bike sales sites quite a bit.

EBAY LINK
Try to get them to either keep the bike or pass on the forum info to the new owner.

Tony, the seller seems to be a very nice chap indeed.

A bit of our conversation... I advised him to look at the VIN conversion site to confirm the date as the bike was listed as 1981

Hi Mate. The VIN # is 4244K100 so I guess it is one of the very early one's. It's amazing that it's in such good original condition for a 30 year old machine.

then...

Wow. Excellent result on the sale. (he sold it for $2750. only 50k on the clock)
I just bought one and paid 2900 and it is a 88 model with only 45k on the clock.
Really is a good bike.

Might be asking a bit much of you, but could you point the buyer to our K100 website.
We try to keep tabs on all the Ks sold as we really do appreciate the old girls.
The site is K100-forum.com.
If the new owner has any questions they can ask them of us.
I imagine the bike was sold fairly locally and there a a number of us in Sydney and we try to get together and kick tyres as often as possible.

Thanks again for being a good sport.
Not really that many of the originals left, as yours is and we try to help out where possible to keep as many on the road as possible.

cheers

rossko
k100-forum.com

Thanks Rossko. I'll pass on your website info to the buyer. He lives down near Phillip Island in Victoria.

I really enjoyed riding my K100 and copped a bit of a ribbing from my Son and Nephew who ride late model sports bikes about being an old fart on an old bike but no matter how fast they rode, I would always show up just a minute or two behind them at our stops. Stress free and comfortable. Anyway good luck for the future.

We'll be heading for the Northern Tablelands gig in a couple of weeks , hoping to take the banner up with us.

Klompy collecting the Banner at Mount White.

The Banner Mount_11

Larrikan signing up, or is he bowing before the mighty Klompy K?

The Banner 12380310

Klompy and Rossko have been looking after it lately ,  managed to add some extras from Sydney and the coast,
so  it would be good to see the banner moving north for the Kweenslanders to scratch their mark .
who can bring it with them?

I had a similar experience on a trip I took with my son. He powered off into the distance on a 200 mile trip, I didn't worry because I knew the K was good and settled into a nice brisk pace on a lovely morning. He was about 3 miles from our destination figuring he had about half an hour ahead of me. I would love to have seen his face when, as he put it, he saw a bike in front of him that looked familiar and then recognised wondering how in heck the old man on a pipe and slippers bike had done that. Factor in the K, no fuel stop, the bike settled into a nice pace on the curves, then it falls into place. He still tells his friends about it and we enjoy a good laugh. It took him 2 years to even sit on it and he went 'I could like this', setting off alarm bells......

After that I figured a K has a soul too.

agree the old Ks keep a swift pace, mine loves 4000rpm to 7000rpm, pulls hard in the upper range and happy to burbble in top to 30kmh on the flat. Trouble is anything above 4000 is technically illegal 100km/h limit here so we need to be dudicious with the throttle, bugger. anyways went for a ride with a few bike today the K keeps up ok. Rick

The last couple of months has seen the banner in the kompany of a few Aussie krew members in Sydney , Klompy was kind enough to escort it to the inaugural Northern Tablelands gathering, giving Charlie the chance to take it up to the Kweenslanders.

some of the Hunter Krew adding their monniker before the banner heads north.
Keith ( K75cster) and Steve1959 .

the guys have been busy in Oz passing the banner around , we still have a few more yet to sign .
Charlie has been sharing it around amongst the Kweenslanders and recently brought it to the Karuah rally in Dungog .

At the Rally was Hans and his RT outfit
The Banner Pic_0212
also found a Rat K outfit ridden by a Beetle from the south .

at some time we are hoping to get out your way Stan.
but before that happens we want to take the opportunity to send it global.

it appears the Irish are preparing a roving trip to France in May
the idea is to capture a few of the forum group in Ireland , UK , and France.
is there any suggestions of how this group of eccentrics can catch up with others along the way to share the forum spirit.

for those who miss the chance to sign the banner, we can copy your signature from any blank cheque sent to ; C/- Aus K100 forum. Beer Fund.

There is an ABR Rally in Co. Down at the end of May. Some of us will head for that. I suspect there may be one or two travelling over from UK.

We are at some point going to France but work commitments particularly for 88KE and myself are such that we cant make firm plans on a date. I think its most likely that at some point we will see Bikerboy and Krambo and NottsK100 have both expressed an interest in this too.

What I see at the moment is that if it gets to the ABR Rally we can get it signed easily enough and pass on to Bikerboy. Or, if it gets to Bikerboy we can pick it up and et it signed before passing it onwards. I don't mind posting it on to the next stop!!

I am not sure it is a good idea we send the banner to the Emerald Isle.

Some of those chaps have fairly strong accents.

What happens if we get the banner back and we can't read it?

They could write anyting. How would we know?

Damn foreigners.

Google gave me a translation, but I don't trust it. Probably just gave my weight in potatoes.

......Not sure where to next for the banner before it heads back to Oz....

As the current custodian of the precious banner, here's an update.

The banner has been out for a ride today....only about an hour or so north of me, to Thornbury Rugby Club (between Bristol and Gloucester, UK). Why on earth would it go there? I hear you think...

...and the answer is, to meet up with and collect another iconic K100 forum signature - that of Sidecar Paul.

SCP was camping at a Vincent rally at the rugby club and, despite some showery weather and the fact that he was on his Vincent and not one of his K's, this was too good an opportunity to miss.

And here's the proof...

Ringfad,

I'll make sure that you get hold of the banner in time. That was one signature that I was trying to work out how to get - but I discovered that the UK-Norway ferry stopped running a few years ago, so there was no easy option to get there. PM me with your plans and we''ll work out the best way to get the banner to you.

The Banner 212902 The Banner 502531 Well put Charlie. Through the forum we come to know various characters, but often won't actually get the chance to meet them. It was a real pleasure to meet up with another of the forum greats - SCP - yesterday. I think we all value his skill, attention to detail, ingenuity and Komradeship and it was so nice to be able to meet up with him for a few hours.

Can I just say, being in the first group to sign the banner, I am dying to get my hands on it again to see all the new names. Last I saw it in person there were maybe 10-15?
Maybe I need to go see the banner instead of waiting for it to come see me?
Norway you say?

Well, Indian036 as in Bill came to check up on it in March and to get his signature on it. This was quickly followed by BornAgainEccentric sending me a PM that he was going to meet Bert. This was organised off forum by BAE as a surprise and luckily the banner arrived at BAE house in the last post before he left for Canada.

Not sure how many signatures are on it now but its a lot more as we have added some Eccentrics and some more from the French trip, Norn Iron, Stradbally, Craggy Island. Its been out for every trip and meet up of the Eccentrics since it came here. Adding Inge to it would be a great one.
BAE seems determined to be getting more signatures! I hope he can get Mike 101 too. Krambo would be a nice one, just for the ride.

Rossko you just have to come over for a visit. I am sure we will be able to find you some Guinness and have Comberjohn fix some weather. Stephen would probably enjoy another sunny evening ride up to Sally Gap too.

BAE even changed his name and seems to need little excuse to pop over. Bill seemed to enjoy his trip, TacKler is due here in 3 weeks for a trip to France. Seems like there is a mutant strain of Kpox about.

Olaf, on Australia Day (Jan 26) this year, my wife said to me 'it is our 30th anniversary next year, where would you like to be?'
We were sitting in a pub called the Mean Fiddler, supposedly bought over from Ireland and rebuilt (apparently every Aussie has Irish heritage, even the Italians) and I was having a Guinness.
"In Ireland drinking a Guinness" was my reply.
Fingers crossed I get my way.

Well there is only one thing for it.

We would love to see you and you will be taken to the Guinness brewery force fed Guinness until you pass out and then stripped naked and tied to a lamp post and afforded the usual welcome. Simon seems to have become an official meet and greet person.

I am sure we can arrange a K meet up too.

Emirates and Etihad both do flights direct to Dublin with a stop over at Abu Dhabi/Dubai.

Dublin is 1 hour flight time from London and 200 flights a week between the two.

An hour and a half from Paris.

Three hours from Vienna.

If you want a nice trip your wife will love these hotels:

Shelbourne Hotel Dublin
Westbury Hotel Dublin.
Merrion Hotel
Clarence Hotel

Near Grafton St, if shopping is her thing, also near the National Library Museum and Gallery, Concert Hall and not too far from the Guinness Hop Store etc if Guinness is your thing.
There are discount sites to access the hotels but have a browse.
Dublin has a decent public transport system and train services are not bad if booked on line or an open Rambler ticket used.

If you are making it a decent trip you could do a trip to some other European city as Dublin has really good connections. Vienna is a definite if you make it a trip of a life time, check out Haas Haus and Praterstern. Also a fabulous communications tower there with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Danube.
www.aerlingus.com will fly you on to Dublin late afternoon.

Dave for his trip is flying back from Paris.....so you could add Paris in too.

Good hotel chains...Ibis Marriott HolidayInn Carlton

See you January....

I know I am around then because my Dads anniversary is January 22nd and am always in Dublin for that.

Apologies if I have wrongly deciphered anyone. The last entry in the table had me well baffled, could just be a friend of the forum rather than a forum member, the 900SS suggests a non K owner...signature in red below (someone will know who he/she is)

A Jedi gril is a rack made out of Jedi lightsabers...VERY quick for cooking  Laughing. A sort of Star Wars Barbqeue!

I think Bruno's signature (Inn keeper at Rouffingnac and host to several Forum members) is on there somewhere too!
