Hi All

Name's Sebastian, 31 years from Austria, but I live in Ireland since 2012.

I started out on the motorbike last year, I have a background in cycling (not sportive but commuting and touring/bikepacking). I was always happy to commute with the bicycle or load up the tent and all the gear and head out over the weekend, or maybe even for a week or two.

When I moved to Ireland however I wanted to increase my range so I would be able to see as much of my new homecountry as possible. Coming from the bicycle I was quick to decide to go for a motorbike rather than a car so I did my training last year and started to look for a suitable bike.

As a beginner I wanted to start with a smaller bike and with my very limited budget I ended up with an old Honda NX 250. Brilliant little motor, lots of fun in the city and on those small and twisting irish country roads, but horrible at speeds over 80 km/h. Felt very wobbly and insecure and I always had the impression that it would soon fall apart.
Also I made the classic first buyer mistake and bought an old bike that would have needed a lot of repairs for a far too high price. And soon after I had to replace the brake pads, the chain and sprockets and that would have been just the start.

Luckily my dad was not using his old BMW anymore and before he would finally send her into retirement, we shipped the old lady over from Austria and I sold the old Honda to a young guy without ripping him off

Just got her here on Friday, and after making sure I had insurance took her out for the first spin on Sunday. First time I was on the bike since christmas and first time on such a big bike (the honda only weighs in at 130 kg whith a full tank)
Felt a bit insecure on the first few kms but then I started to really enjoy it, No more wobbling around at higher speed, very comfortable bike, maybe not quite as agile as the NX but the ride is so much smoother.
Also it's great to  have that extra bit of power when needed to overtake a tractor or truck. Unless going downhill with a bit of tailwind that was always difficult on the Honda.

Very happy with the K75, 93000 km are on the clock already but after the frist spin I'm confident that it will easily go up to 100k and beyond, it's very wel maintained and felt and sounded brilliant. I had seen her before unloading in Ireland so I was very happy to see that she came with topcase and panniers.  I guess I load up al the camping gear over one of the coming weekends and head to the coast for a day or two.

Heard there's some irish guys on the forum here, so maybe we'll meet up for a spin one day.

Hi Sebastian, welcome to the forum from down under.
You sure have the right place for some good riding partners but you will have to be careful as some will need a helping hand onto the bikes. Hello from Cork 177912

Welcome Sebastian,

You have picked and excellent bike, an excellent part of the world to ride in and are dangerously close to some of the most fantastically sociable, knowledgeable and active folk on the forum (aka the Irish Eccentrics). I hope you get in with them, I doubt if you'll regret it!

Enjoy your bike.

Thank you all for the nice welcome.

Hopefully we'll have a nice summer here ahead of us, I'm still a beginner on the bike so I hope I'll get lots of miles of training in the coming month. currently I'm waiting to get all the paperwork done and the the bike on irish plates.

I hope I'm not going to need it for a while, but good to see that there is a big tech-section on the forum so I guess if there's anything wrong with the bike the answer to fixing it will be found here.

I'll definetly look out for meet ups, looking forward to getting to know some of the members in person.
