Not quite a K100..... K75c_a12

Not quite a 100, but a 75C, that hopefully I will have back on the road and in use as BMW intended.

It's a '85 model with (well the speedo says) <45K miles...wonder if it's the original speedo  Shocked

Hopefully with the lower seat I will find it a bit more manageable than a K1100RS I had a few yrs back (lovely but found that too big and heavy) and a K75S that was a bit tall in the saddle - so tipey toe and pecarious but loved it's smoothness & quality feel - the seat height got the better of me so sold it and found missed I it....hence this 'C'.

Always had/have lurking worry about the longevity of the (then fancy new) electrics & FI and being able to keep it otr as they age; but maybe as bikes have generally gradually headed that way, the K's can be kept on the road with hopefully knowledge and wisdom gained over the last 30 yrs or so - from Beemers and those componants as they have become more common-place.

Love the forum, hopefully will help me keep a (this) 'K' otr in Lincolnshire, UK.

Regards

M

PS: Will the 'k's ever attain the classic state that seems to have befallen the R 'airheads' (well assume with 60yrs + old thats a tall order, pehaps) or will the 'classic' bug bypass these 'k's and oilheads assume that status?

Seem to recall a letter in the UK VMCC a few ys back and seem to recall the 'k's werent seen as 'classics' - still from my memory of the smoothness of the 75 and its build quality (better than later bikes??) - hopefully one to enjoy and a keeper.

Welcome from Leicestershire Not quite a K100..... 112350

When I was looking earlier this year K75s were priced significantly higher than K100s, I think they may actually be approaching classic status as they're not too big or heavy for the old blokes who decide such things. K100s seem to be resisting it though, early 8v models in particular are worth no more or even less than similarly aged rivals but then they don't really do anything better than those rivals while parts are expensive and they are a bit more complicated with the FI mumbo jumbo. Good if you're a buyer, though!

Welcome to the forum.....enjoy quietly as we don't want too many people knowing about the K ...the price does not need to go up.

Welcome to the madhouse, Silver W..............it looks like you're missing the dust cap on both fork legs. It would reduce the lifetime of your fork seals.

My plan is to fit some fork gaiters (I think Motorworks (UK) may have some that would fit) to protect seals and the fork tubes too.

And hope to check and regrease driveshaft/bevel splines....wonder if thay have been done  :suspect: .

Apart from scary electronics and ECU that is other concern, gulp  Rolling Eyes

Welcome.  Do some phoning around to local automotive shock repair shops (or go online) and ask about Rancho RS1952 shock boots.  These fit the K75/K100 perfectly and are substantially less cost than purpose made motorcycle gaiters.  I have Ranchos on my K75.

Also, you guys overseas have a good gaiter supplier -- Gaiterman

Well, a bit tidier - now MOT'd and OTR;

A spline lube done (albeit it appears not best stuff it seems Castrol Moly....but that's what I had to hand   Embarassed ).

Seems to ride nicely; fork gaiters fitted.
