Hello all,

Just wanted to throw a quick introduction out there. I've always loved the look of the flying brick, I thought it was sleek yet ugly in its own endearing way...to be fair I used to build Volvo 240's. After selling my 2003 F650GS, I've been bikeless for about 2 years. For Father's Day this year my wife told me to buy a bike. I picked up a non-running 85 K100RT off of CL, and looking forward to getting this sucker running!

Current status: Non-running

  • PO was tackling some electrical gremlins and the bike ended up sitting in the corner of the garage.
  • Needed a new starter relay - Done
  • Needs a new ignition switch - Still trying to track one of these down. In the meantime, I've hotwired it.
  • Needs a new battery

I don't have huge grandiose plans for this bike, but I am planning on dumping the fairing and swapping in a round headlight bucket or similar.

Anyways, I'm sure I'll be back soon enough to get some electrical help, and I look forward to talking with everyone.

Thanks!
-Dylan

Hey thanks! I actually came across that page the other day. I've got a shopping list at home that I'm waiting to pull the trigger on before I start the swap.

Really? Your choice, but I thought Seattle was one of the wetter parts of the US....the RT/LT fairings really are our friends when riding in wetter climates. I ride all year round and really appreciate the protection offered by the full fairing.

You have interesting mirrors on the fairing at the moment, not the usual looking ones.

Anyway, welcome and enjoy the forum.

You know you're probably right, but the inconvenience of the rain is far outweighed by the feeling of freedom I get on a naked bike. My feelings towards large, comfortable fairings might shift the older I get, but for now, I go naked. Having spent a few years as a moto-only commuter, I've invested in some relatively water-resistant clothing.

The mirrors are non-OEM. The PO got tired of accidentally bumping them and having them pop off of the fairing, so he installed these. The originals are in the parts box and one of them has a broken lens.

The last car my dad had was a Volvo 240, a silver GLE model and a lovely motor. Looked boxy and staid, was anything but to drive. The K100 fits the same profile quite nicely......

I have an 84 K100RT and its impressive the way you can throw it around when its got no panniers or top box on, completely different bike. But with Bridgestone BT45 tyres on I can happily throw it around in the wet too. I never entertain removing the fairing.

I just clicked on 4 brand new injectors, Chinese I figure, but they are costing me a grand total of GBP92 ex taxes for the 4 of them posted and come with the seals. I have a spare injector rail which will be all nicely painted up for them for a straight swap. My existing ones I will clean and refresh in my own time to put on the shelf in anticipation of another K coming this year....if I tidy my shed.
