Hi Folks,
The original K 100 came with a mudguard which stopped short at the area above the clutch actuating mechanism so that a continuous shower of filth and water is directed at the area when we ride in the wet. BMW recognised this in 1994 (it only took ten years), and released an inner mudguard extension which is referred to in the following picture http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?model=K%20100%20RS&prod=071990-011992

Now whilst this part only fits the 4Valve, K1 and K1100 one could make a similar extension from a bit of rubber sheeting say 1/4" or 5 mm thick and bolt it through the rear mudguard at the bottom and that would deflect the crud away from the clutch actuating arm and cable end. Also give the clutch actuating arm and cable pivot a good squirt with aerosol chain lube on a regular basis (when you change the engine oil say) and my bet is there will be no more corroded /stiff clutch actuating arms.
Regards,
K-BIKE

Hi thanks K bike have a mudguard extender from a cb 500 thats now going to be customized!!
read your other postings what does the sun look like? here in uk we saw it for almost 3 days!! and yesterday was a no brainer was wet through before ride even started only bit of me that was dry when i came back was both lower inside legs thanks to the k heat.
Still surprising me with how stable they are in wet much more than a goldwing that was being a prat good job recession has kept farmers from replacing gates or there would be one bad mood goldwing rider whoose insurance would have skyrocketed!!

Hi Pete,
Well worth fitting one of the front mudguard extender available in the UK for our bikes, stops all the crap spraying back onto the engine.
Weather here is great even on a wet day we get to see blue sky most days AND summer is coming!.
Regards,

Hi Viney,
The down under thing is a northist comment foisted upon us by those from the northern hemisphere who try to change the facts about who is "on top". We all know that in fact astronomically speaking south is at the top and north is at the bottom. This dates from the time when astronomers started mapping the planets using their telescopes which produce an image where south is at the top. From then on south is shown on the top and north is shown on the bottom. So all of us in Aus and NZ are on top of the planet and all of those poor devils shivering in the north are actually down under Sad
Regards,
K-BIKE

Hello there, sorry you are all wrong, the ecliptica (eart´s traveling path around the sun) is in a vertical plane, so up and down is always changing ...
Best regards

I reckon it's more than just an extender... I find that when riding in what we call a gentle shower (bottom of the ocean with just enough air to remain conscious) there is so much spray from the rear wheel that my left boot gets soaked through.
I'm planning how to add a quarter-circle of plastic plus a mudguard extended. I might do it both sides to keep the crud off the rear caliper and shock as well.
If it works I'll post pictures.

Please do Paul. I'm not quite sure what you mean by a quarter circle of plastic.

Use the part from the 1100, they have an extension that protects the clutch booth/gear switch
