Q. Is it the same principle on removing the mirror housing from a K100RT/LT as the K1100, its probably been asked before but trawling the site I have only found the quote below, Im only asking as I dont want to break the casing, I know the procedure on removing the glass, its just the mirror housing from the fairing.




To disassemble K1100RS/LT mirrors from their housings, such as might be
required to replace a broken mirror or to prepare for painting:



  1. Remove the mirror housing from the bike by striking the top outer
    corner with the heel of your hand while holding it with the other hand
    so that it does not drop to the ground.

Yep, that's it. Or try dropping the bike and you will see how easily it comes off!!! Laughing

predictable huh ?

saving grace ...i was on a dirt track halfway up a mountain ....tracks got deeper than the crankcase ....i was laughing with joy that i didnt draw blood as i rolled down the side of the chasm throught the lantana end over end over end ...and the k was happy to idle away till i got back ...just jammed the mirror back on ....ahem...in the approved manner ...and kept going up the hill

To remove the mirrors, I strike them from the bottom but yes, it may be easier to strike them from the top. The reason is that it has only 1 holding pin on the top, but 2 on the bottom.
Check this post as it explains how to remove the pod as well as the mirror.

I have removed both mirror housings now, they were both greased and came off with a bit of persuation but easily.. Mirror Housing on LT/RT 212902

As it says in the Haynes manuals.."refitting is the reverse of the removal proceedure" but better to use your hand than garage wall Laughing
