It doesn't work in BMWNA's Great Computer either. Check the digits around the last seven...something's amiss there.

Its what I saw, exactly. I saw the bike in a workshop. I'm beginning to think the chassis number has been changed: a portion of the frame where I saw this number has been filed, and it looks as if an embossment has been taken off. Some bikes imported to this place are stolen from Europe or America. I think those who do this sometimes change the chassis number.

But the bike looks exactly like a BMW R1150R.

There should also be an aluminium plate fixed to the frame with 2 rivets.

that was what I said has been removed.
You see the rivet holes and nothing else. that area looks as though it has been filed or ground. I think it was stolen and then imported.

The last digits are normally a seven digit number and I ma just wondering if there should be one or two zeros? EU bureaucrats have everything set out a certain way to incorporate model codes etc in the VIN and its usually the last seven digits. The numbers are normally marked into the frame as well and if they are all present and clear then it should show up on a database somewhere.

But, as already pointed out, it doesn't seem to be a genuine number. I can do a web search on my car VIN and it will tell me manufacturer, model etc.

An R1150R series VIN would be (starting with the tenth digit) ZF followed by five numbers. So, if we type in ZF17128 we see an 01/2001 R1150R non-US model. Perhaps this is what you're seeing but possibly misinterpreting.

or that whoever has altered it has done it so it could be seen as a badly done stamping.

if you are considering buying it, I would not touch it even with a rubber finger.

I wouldn't buy it at all.
It sure is an R1150R, that I'm sure of. So I think its been altered.
Thank you all.
