I didn't understand last comment. What do you mean talking about original pinion gear? I left gears from K1100LT , I changed only finel drive's cover....Two Wheels Better wrote:
Let's hope that behind the scenes some effort was made to measure and shim the replacement ring gear with the original pinion gear otherwise we'll have a well and truly fragged final drive on about the second or third short ride.

Looking at the video, Konstantin removed both covers with their respective ring gears intact. He then removed the ring gear / bearing assembly from the old K1100 cover and swapped it into the R1100GS cover. Shimming of the pinion may not be necessary if the bearing holes on both covers are precisely the same relative to the K1100's final drive case. It's probably not a bad idea to check the clearance on the pinion gear using the process described on page 33.15 in the BMW K1100 service manual, just to have peace of mind.Two Wheels Better wrote:My apologies, I must have been mistaken. It's doable, Floyd, but you will need the Marzocchi forks, 305mm brake discs, four piston callipers and 20mm m/c from a K11 to fit a 19" front wheel to your earlier model. The calliper mount spacing holes and the offset are quite different from 8V to 16V models.
