Hi all. Time to renew coils - any thoughts on the latest best UK buys?

Preferred forum suppliers RAM has a rear shock for £270 odd.

http://www.realmengineering.com/page15.html

Hyperpro do a front and rear spring package for just £201. However, they don't supply the damper, hence the conundrum.

Riding around on a pogo stick fore and aft makes this an urgent investment!

How about joining the 21st century and fitting cartridge emulators to a pair of late K75 Showa forks? Or if you've got the Marzocchi cartridge forks (16v) can Gold Valves or similar be fitted? I've not seen anyone here mention these things yet, it's always the same old antiquated progressive springs and thicker/more oil advice. Just a thought.

Alternatively Motorworks and Moto-bins sell pairs of progressive springs for cheap. Can't help with the shock though, I've not had to learn about those just yet..

Race Tech offer Gold Valve cartridge emulator kits for later K Showa forks under part number FEGV S3801 at US$170+, and progressively wound springs under part number FRSP S3234 at US$115+.

http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/2/BMW/K%2075%20all/1992-95

Quality, multi-adjustable shockies are readily available from any number of trusted builders like EPM in New Jersey USA (purveyors of HyperPro, Wilbers, etc.) and Elke, Progressive, Hagon and RAM all make rears available.

Stay well away, however, from Ikon as the original Koni "moulds" must be very old indeed. I have had to enlarge the mounting holes on Ikon shocks for BMWs to allow clearance for the very standard OEM bolt. They are simply built cheaply, lacking in any feel of quality at all.

In the UK YSS PD Valves are much easier to find than Racetech's emulators, cheaper too at under £100 though it's still a massive rip off for what they are.

Sad to hear about Ikon Crying or Very sad

It's my understanding that you install either the cartridge emulators or the progressive springs, but not both.

Correct me if I'm mistaken (it has happened in the past, believe it or not).

You can absolutely install both, though linear springs seem to be more highly regarded (fashionable) at the moment than progressive springs as they make setting up the emulators a bit easier, being constant. The springs do what they always did, they hold the bike up off the ground, while the emulators take over the job of damping from the holes in the damper rod by acting as a valve, not opening much most of the time (giving a harder ride with less wallowing/dive) but being able to open a lot if necessary, thereby trying to smooth things out when you run over a stone or a speed bump or whatever. I say try as I don't think they are properly amazing but they're certainly better than your average damper rod setup.

Thanks, Snod. Might give the emulators a go as I've already have the prog. springs.

Beware you'll have to modify the damper rod with more holes to stop it from damping, it's a one way process! This is also purely for the Showa forks, the Sachs forks are too weird for this kind of thing..
