I just purchased a Scorpion YIX30L battery for my 91' K100 and I had a couple of questions before I complete the install in case anyone has this same battery in their K100:

1) My last battery had a clear vent tube attached to it. I don't see an area to attach to the Scorpion battery, so I assume its not needed?

2) I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding how the leads are connected with the bolts they supplied w/ the Scorpion. I can get the leads to stay connected but there doesn't seem to be enough room to once the bolt is through to secure w/ a nut....just seems to be too loose. I've provided a pic below.

It's an AGM, sealed battery, and should be part number SYI30XL (to replace BMW 61 21 1 459 650), which is 6mm taller than the stock battery and 15mm narrower, but of the correct 'depth', front to back. There should be square threaded nuts which fit inside the battery posts (your retailer didn't supply them, perhaps!?), screws that are long enough to clear everything you add to it, and small, cylindrical collars which allow the multiple battery lead ends to 'stand off' slightly from the battery box. It's a 30Amp battery of very good quality.

The screws is supposed to be mounted from the top , and the nuts inside the terminals.
You need to make yourself some adaptors.

Beware so you don't short the battery, as the heads on the screws would be higher than the battery.

Thanks for your help Inge. Got the leads connected from the top successfully. Now how do I protect the bolts that are securing the leads so that when I put the fuel injection CPU on top of the battery, it doesn't contact the bolts and spark? The new battery didn't come with any sort of plastic protectors to put overtop the leads/bolts.

See connected battery pic below

You seem to have it fitted upside down, that should keep the terminals well clear of the FI box.

A thin, rubber mat, cut to size, to insulate the terminals. Oh, the joys of the aftermarket.

Inge, can you explain a bit more about how it's upside down?  I have the bolts coming through the top of the terminl and the square ended nuts are fitted inside the terminal as you mentioned above.

You have to ask Bikerboy to explain that, but I think he got the negative crimp terminal in mind.

I don't know if this make conflict with the Motronic unit or its bracket.

Sorry I was trying to be funny! It just looks like the battery terminals are at the bottom when you look at the picture, which is of course taken from above.

Whoops, sorry Inge.

Bikerboy, I'd encourage some sort of emoticons if there's any joking involved. Had me fooled.

Does anyone have an example of a rubber cover solution?
