K100RS 1984. The fuel pump is not operating, believed, by me, to be caused by the gunge from the sleeve disintegrating, Bike stored for over 10 years. A replacement costs about £170. Any suggestions on how to clean the pump. In fact clean this gunge from the tank.

Look for second hand one's on Ebay, £50/60 or a Peugeot 205GTI one fits. I used one of these recently to resolve my starting problems, also change inline filter in tank. John

There's all sorts of options out there. Here's just one example from the US. Others have posted a variety of replacement pumps. Try searching 'fuel pump' in the search engine.

I had a similar problem with mine after sitting for 10 years, the worst problem was cleaning the tank.

A list of compatible pumps. I have used 2 of them and checked out many more so I believe it is correct.
The main things for a fuel pump is the volume and pressure delivered as well as size i.e. does it fit and fuel line size.
The electrical connections are different on many of them but not so that it cant be changed.

Thanks again. I find it hard to believe that so many of you would take the time and effort to help. I now have an understanding of the principle and even prepared to take the "old" apart just to learn.I only hope that one day I will know something that you don't and I can reciprocate

The last time I was back home in OZ I was out riding for five days on some fine Great Dividing Range roads on my venerable K and the fuel pump was sometimes just doin' its thing and at other times was lettin' out a hell high hollerin'! At one stage she quit with a coupla hiccups to forewarn me. It was at least eighty K's to the next town and a screamin' thunderstorm would be upon me in an hour or two. I was staring into the dense bush (rainforest-like) for a place to set up me tent for the night, but with some luck (and a nod to the Gods with a chicken bone dance) I was able to restart her and make it to my intended destination that night before darkness descended. The rains came in hard and heavy but I was now safely ensconced in the hotel's pub with beer at hand and food within easy reach.

Once back in 'Merica for work I decided to buy the entire fuel pump she-bang from Euro Moto Electric, including a new Bosch pump, collar, insulation, clamps, filter and hoses. When I return in Springtime I'll fit this new kit before riding South to visit rellies in Victoria.

Not Taking Chances.

It is possible to uncrimp the top of the pump and clean up the brushes  and commutator also even free up the bushes when they sieze up. getting it back together is a bit fiddly as the brushes are spring loaded ,  but if your pump has stopped what have you got to lose . I have revived several  dead pumps that have been dry and unused for years this way.
