Hello,

Right Hand Fork Leg on my K100RS 1983 does not match my left hand leg.  Under investigation the filling bolt at the top of the leg had a bolt with a piece of 'rubber' hose fitted pushed into the hole.





I'm sure this isn't right.

Looking through the parts manual only shows 1 leg which just has a filling bolt with a sealing washer.  Haynes isn't clear either.

Looking down the hole there appears to be a couple of O-rings and some ports? so my guess is some form of adjustment.



Not sure if these are the correct legs?



Can anyone help with what should be going on/in here.  Some photo's are always a great help.

The number 1450520 is a lower fork leg for a mid '80s bike, the other side should be a 1450519.

The thread has been stripped out and some lazy bastard has done it the cheap way.
To fix it properly you will need to disassemble the leg by removing the top bung, you push it down against the spring and remove a wire curclip then the bung comes out and you can rethread it or replace it.

I knew it was a bodge but wasn't sure how much of one.

I'll see about stripping the cap out and repairing. I'll maybe use the chance to service the forks and fit gaiters so I'll get something positive from this as well.

Eventually I've had a chance to dig into this a bit further.  Thanks to ebay I got a pair of fork tops so I've swapped one into the right hand fork leg on the bike.  

The right hand fork top plug had what appears to be a pre-load adjuster internally and is significantly longer than the standard plug.



There was also a small piece of a snapped pin (this doesn''t fill me full of confidence as it raises the question is there any more).

Hopefully I'll get out tomorrow to see how this has changed the handling.

Shug, this is ringing a few bells.

Many, many years ago I fitted some progressive springs to my solo after the top coils of the original springs had broken off.

The new springs came with long nylon spacers similar to those in your picture and I found them to be much too long so I had to do a bit of shortening to get the fork action satisfactory.

So, maybe your forks have those after-market springs?
