Hi all,

I inherited my '85 K100rt from my father. It's got 50k miles and it's been serviced from square one at the local dealership. Nice!
I love the oomph and the comfort, but I've got a to-do list that started with mechanical upgrades but now includes bodywork, seeing how I managed to dump it in my driveway.

I was moving her to the upper driveway; a steep uphill from the garage. Just puttering up the hill, making the turn into the driveway and I stalled it midturn while on a steep grade. The bike tipped, I had no ground to stand on as I was on the edge of the drive and down she went - hard. Crying or Very sad

Let's see if I can figure out how to post a cupla pics...

It's a sad looking picture Kyle10.
We would certainly have preferred a picture of you riding with a big smile on your face.
We hope that the damage is minimal. I would recommend that you check the top fairing where it's attached to the spider bracket. This is usually where the fairing will break.

About posting the picture, you were almost there.
Check this post to find the proper way to include pictures in your post.

as we say in Oz, She'll be right Mate, pick her up, dust her off, and get back on.
hopefully the only major damage was your pride, a few of us have already experience that part of K ownership.
once you have assesed the situation , any advice needed to bring her back to shipshape condition is readily available here.
plenty of helpful people who have in some way been in the same position as yourself.
let us know how you go.
and yes, pics will be required, for advice of course.

also a friendly welcome , and although not the entry you would have hoped for,
but it will be one in which will give you good grounding into K knowledge.
Cheers Ed.

Hi Kyle not exactly the grand entrance that one desires but a memorable one.
You'll have plenty of helpful suggestions from the members on fixing things.

Thanks, all

Resurrection pics to follow. I miss her terribly Crying or Very sad but it's mostly body parts to replace. I've got most of them delivered, just screwing all back together and I'd have a 'Baja Red', a fire engine red and silver bike. Patchwork as all get out.

Since the right turn signal was converted to granular plastic and the odd shards I'm thinking of aftermarket LED lights. I'll install load resistors of course, but will this screw with the 'burned out bulb' warning function? I've been told that it will.

It wont interfere with the bulb monitoring relay as it only monitors the stop, tail light and park lights.

Hate it when that happens. 🇳🇴

But, look on the bright side; the bike didn't have panniers on, or lower farings, or engine guards--all of which would have sustained damage by the fall.

Hope the rehabs going ok, looks the same year as mine though mines claid to be an 87 when re vinned in NZ ex Japanese I think.
Easy to loose footing at low speed, especially on gravel with little foot traction or fall away terrain.
Here's a pic near another automotive icon.

Thats an interesting one.....Flying Brick followed by a Galloping Maggot.....a modern one too, doesnt even have a split windscreen. Is she around 1970 model? Looks like towards the end of production.

Both seem to go on forever. But, the bike has over twice the power of the car........amazing what happened between 1971 and 1983 in terms of technological development.

Enjoy the K.

"Baja Red"! As I took apart the fairing I noticed the non-faded color was a heluva lot deeper red than the parts exposed to the elements.

At the risk of 'bastardizing' my bike I'm thinking of a non-OEM color. I'm thinking I'll have her painted a metallic tangerine orange with just a touch of brown. Blacking out the engine and forks, too.

So much to do, so many hours in a day etc...

The moggies an early 60s, the split screen disappeared in the late 50s early 60s I think? The K 100 looks good for her day even today I wreckon, solid dependable. The pics and vids are great. The Baja red colour looks good, I thought some modest pin stripping in deep yellow or black may set off the contours of the fairing and side covers, also the batterry need a black plastic shroud over the end as the white rectangle looks so ourt of place.

Rick, re that lip on top of the windscreen. When I got the bike it didn't have one, when I finally located the part # and ordered one ($OEM only) was shocked how efficient it is in kicking the wind over my helmet.

Seems like the teutonic engineers got that right right from the start.

Giving in to the urge to paint the battery black to camo' it. Figure leaving most of the forward face of it unpainted would allow me to check levels in the cells, though, while still blending the battery into the frame/works.
