Someone got any experience with cutting out the dash?... I unhooked it from the tree, and it didn't run.. is there a simple solution? re-routing some wires or something like that?

You getting power to the starter button from the neutral light,
with dash removed you need to pull the clutch to start.

Excellent discussion chaps, I've often wondered what it would take to get my spare 86er running again (No dash and no rear brakes) but I'm thinking the Ecu and engine/gearbox would make it a candidate for fitting a tray to the back making a farm cart with style. If I can get it going.

Mine ran immediatly after 5 years of sitting in the garage..

fresh battery, fresh feul and a little push.. it ran like it was never asleep..

Seems quite normal for an old good reliable K.

My oldest one have been standing untouched in 7 years 9 months.
Earlier this year I got the idea to check if it could be scared back to life.

Changed all fluids, filters, sparkplugs, battery and added some foggin oil to
the cylinders, ignition on...hittin` the button....it fired up before the crank did a complete rotation!!!!

I did expect a lot frozen parts and leaks everywhere....but just minor.
Rear master did need a little bit extra push, but no leak.
Front master very minor leak (just sweating), but gaskets never been changed.
Thats all!!!

All that have been done beside normal service parts during the years is:
At 155K km new gaskets and fluid container on rear master.
At 190K km new cam chain and rails, front rotors and starter brushes.
A whole lot of rear brake light switches (have to blame the salted roads for that).

A quite amazing 25 year old bike which have passed 200K km.

same here, brakes and stuff where all good, at least better than I expected after 5 years...

mine also has 200K

I stripped the bike futher today and cut up the front and back fairings !! going to look niceeee!

Vandals.....its a mess.....where's the continuing lines.....like film remakes they are never as good as the original.

No offence mate but Styling is important and you should follow the line of artistry.

Having been in the car industry and part of it in styling I recommend you follow this picture line.

The frame of the k100 is already quite high, and wide!.. (specially for me… 1.70m)…


If you want to place the seat the way you photoshopped.. no-one will properly touch the ground with his feet…

I agree that your line is the line to go! But it’s simply not do-able with the standard frame (something I want to keep in this project)…


I want to keep it low.. and a diving line… I’m going to edit the lower front of the tank and lower front of the seat to match forms.. that
way I get a bit of uniformity, a diving line and a drivable line… designing is all about making consessions….

good job Ajays had to put my glasses on thought I was seeing things with the 3 chassis and mount under the seat

Hey mate, very cool ideas. Just a thought, if you modify the seat piece to wrap around the frame, it may end up quite wide and make getting your feet on the ground a little awkward.

Just a bit of food for thought, good luck.

Thanks, just bought my tig-welder 2 weeks ago.. so I myself am very pleased with the result..
About the sound-clip, of course!!! as soon as possible (pitty i already cut up my tank, otherwise I would 've already got it running)

How many hours do you figure you've got into fabrication for the exhaust and what did you end up using?

Approximately 25/30-hours, that includes finding the "silencer"

I used +/- 2 metres of 35x2 stainless, 1 metre of 45x2 stainless, and some pieces 65x2 stainless.. the silencer is a Termignoni, very light stainless!

update!! had some stuff cut out of aluminium
and stainless, finally i fitted the topfairing, now i can start working

I just started on a rs cafe racer project, intended to keep the original talipeice, great to see how you have completed your project

Looking good scheffers, have you had it running yet?
Would be intersted to know how it goes with your modified air box intake etc.

Good transformation though, is there no end of possibilties with these bikes.
