Hi gurus
just seem to be developing a narky problem, after having done many miles lately and the weather warming, but not too hot yet.
Yesterday I was punting along and thought I detected a couple of slight misses, or power loss, very brief, then when I dismounted to open my front gate, I turned her off and when I tried to restart, seemed to me like a vapour lock occuring. Lots of power through to the pump but no start. After about 10 cranks she started and purred away.
Today, similar, one sudden quick loss of power, then normal, then a hard start after parking on sidestand in the sun. If it was an old VW beetle I'd say vapour lock, then later no problem after being on centre stand in the shade.
So am I looking at a fuel filter replace?. The pump has been working really well. It has only been 26deg C so I shouldn't think that's a problem. Where to start.
Always use 98 Octane juice and it never sits for long in my tank.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Sounds like a electric problem to me......

When the filter starts to be clogged, you hear/feel that the engine ain't get enough fuel, when you twist it wide open.... on the open road.

Could be a shoot in the dark.....but I would first have checked the L-jetronic connector (properly seated), and then the connector between the engine and chassis harness.

It could be a vapor lock but it sounds like fuel pump to me. The symptoms are very much the same as when mine went on me on the way home from Winton. Check the 4 pin connector that connects the tank to the harness, on the female part of the plug the sockets are prone to opening up and making intermittent connection.

Jinx.

That's what you get RT for saying how well it is going. "I know I should do xyz, but it is running so well at the moment I am reluctant to touch it"

Workshop coming up at Robertson. Pints of Coopers Pale at the pub, back to RT's to polish off the rest of Col's beer he never drank and sleep on the floor with a dog.

Sounds like a good weekend.

Oh. Fuel filter. Or the splines. Maybe a loose footpeg.

Thanks everyone
I have a spare new pump and filter so may as well do the lot in one go. Just don't like being off the road too long and I am such a procrastinator that it'll take a week to decide to de pressurize the system. Maybe I'll check the connectors first, Inge has a pretty good track record and it is the easy option. Looking at 40 odd degree C today which is cooler than elsewhere in Oz, so not much fun on the road. (I see putty road claimed another one yesterday. Be careful out there).

Well now I am not sure what's going on. Took a leisurely 150k ride up hill and down dale etc, medium warm temperature, brekky at Kiama, back up the big pass near me, absolutely no trouble or sign of a miss or cough or starting problems.
Be off for a 200k run today with the missus and her bike. It'll be a bit warmer so see if anything happens.
Cheers RT
