I recently bought a 1990 k100LT projcct bike. I can buy an 1984 K 100 engine as a spare. Will the 1984 engine fit my 1990 k100lt cycle?

They are interchangeable. If you don't mind me asking why do you need to change, the engines usually don't give much trouble even on very high mile machines.
