September 2013 is the 30th anniversary of the K100 or The Brick as its affectionately known.
The Australians on this site have been thinking about a get together for the occasion and the possibilty of a world wide Brickfest.
For the Aussie gathering Bathurst was suggested and I think it is a very good choice because of its association with motorsport of all types over the years.
The City has plenty of accomodation and even a condo type place at the race track but as yet I don't know any prices and the like.

I am throwing this out there to get opinions from all corners of the globe and to even try to get a working group together with at least one from each Continent at the least or even better a few from many countries.

I need feedback regarding this or it just wont get of the ground on a world wide basis. Should it be open to K100, K75 and K1100 (classic Bricks) or all Bricks to include the K1200s or just all Ks but personally I don't believe that any Air or Oil heads should be involved. What are your thoughts, don't be shy to come forward with suggestiond weather negative or positive as they can only make it better.

We will only have 10 months to put something together and to be honest isn't very long to do something like this.

If Bathurst is OK, then Col and I can help with some side rides. Col is closer to Bathurst then me and we could send him on a "fact finding" mission to check the pubs out. Great if we get a world wide week or month where all the gatherings are held.

I had a quick look around accomodation in Bathurst for W/E of 31st August - 1st September and around $130 for a starting price is about average for anywhere with a venue to have an all in dinner.
Bathurst is a good place as there are no major cities to deal with when comming from any direction and its fairly central.
I intend to post on as many forums as possible and ask that we all do the same so as to get the word out.
Stan did you contact BMW Australia or in Germany when you asked about the anniversary.

I want to move to Australia, you guys really know how to have fun!

On a side note but kind of along the same lines, I found out that my bike was built the week of my 20th birthday, which is also the same week I got my motorcycle license and my first bike, a Honda 400 automatic!

Happy birthday brick! (I know, I'm early)

Rick, I was in contact with BMW Australia, Michelle Smith CIC, phone 1800813299, info@bmw.com.au .
Her comment, in January, was that there were no plans at that time. I thought a big company would have forward planning some time ahead.

As an aside I stayed at the Kings Hotel in George Street Bathurst last night $40.00 for a 2 bunk room. Found out I'm definitely too old for the top bunk. The place was full of barely dressed young women ( Melbourne Cup day) so I couldn't fault it.
Might have to go again, there's an Irish pub with an Irish Blues band in a fortnight.

woohoo bob ...pubs are great ...and usually less than half the price of motels .....and as you say ...added features ...wink ...! (you can pm me the phone numbers of the ladies ...im not picky ...grin)

"irish blues band" .... now isn't there some irony there already ??? should be great !

but i do think that bathurst does have some motor "heritage " around the nation and as said, is nice and central

top choice from the this old fella ...and do-able....

i wouldn't count on anything from bmw australia happpening ..unless the major "bmw clubs" got together and organised something ......i get the feeling that "its all a quaint and a far back memory" out here

our recent in history, revival of the mighty "k bike" is a generational change ....and just but 20 or so members from aussie in here, we dont have much hope of really making any good suggestions to them ...(especially the fact that we buy most of our consumables overseas ... which doesnt help) ...but im sure there are believers still around ...thank hevens .

but perhaps we could in fact organize a world wide hook up ...video feed kinda thing for the celebrations ...

Just thinking that through a little ...we would have some awefully pissed aussies by the time uk came on line in their time slot ....and even more masses of celebration by the time eastern canada came on line (some 15 hours after us) and clubbie etc in western parts some 2-3 hours later ...wow ...!

Charlie is it not in your dna to have a beer in one hand and watch the sun rise over the mealee of bikes and blokes, just about every rally I ever attended went this way. Mind you we could do the same thing with this event as was or is being done with the tag thread. you know post pics and wait for the next timeframe to come online. by the end of the week end it'll all be online and remembered. Man could we ride the mount that week end?????? could we????

lol true indeed keith ....i have done that a few times ....um down at byron ...at ...lennox head ....oh crap, the list is big ...lets not go there ...huh ?

what do you think ? a link up amongst our forum mates ? its just a suggestion or as you suggest a timeline on fb ? (omg smacks head )

yep a quick couple of runs round the circuit is a brilliant idea .......but its public road ..shoot ...with 60 kph road signs every where ...i had in mind pushing the envelope ...heheh ...but would soon find myself in the lockup and no bike license real quick ...heat of the moment i guess .

Am up for a big event.....we need to get the word out as there are probably thousands of K's out there.....

K13, K100 anniversary etc etc....or...something clever.....I have access to all military in Oz so if we can get some suitable flyers or some such put together in electronic format, I can send out by email to all K owners....for expression of interest.

This could boost our membership somewhat too....not that we need it, but imagine the buying power for consumables.

Just throwing some ideas out there guys.....lets think about the possibilities.

good idea rick

i was having a bit of an epifany whist riding the boring highway home the other day

and crazy frog s advetising pic from the picture contest

30th Anniversary of the Brick Billbo10e

we need to get up some advetising for the september event ....perhaps a few in here can work on a good poster that might be worth sending to all the local bike shops with a good accompaning letter to coax them into displaying it in their shop window for a while at least .. either by fax or email whatever, but personal representation would be best .as i dont see bmw aussie doing anything in particular with this oportunity, at this time .

it seems to me that the bmw mob would easily jump at the chance to put a whole swathe of bikes together ...never mind if its actually a "k" bike ....but im sure with a good poster many will come out of sheds , not seen for a long time .

my personal skills of writing or drawing are woesome ,,,so i wont go there ...but would be happy to hit the road a nd aproach a few bike dealers with sugested poster ..

at this stage i thought that the main design could be started ...actual event dates etc would need to be left open at this time, till some more organisation about campsite- accomodation , the actuall bathurst site management , bmw australia etc could be contacted .

of corse the forum would need to bless the event as i envisage the event would hold some major heading refereing to our international internet association of enthusiasts ( till bmw australia ..get the idea, then take ownership i suspect )

i had thought of some of the text that could be used

whist we have no asociation with bmw directly

bmw k series bike appreciators and lovers propose a meet and greet to celebrate the awesome acheivement of 30 years of manufacture of the beloved "k bike "

these bikes are a living testament to design and manufacture processes that have stood the test of time

we propose to meet at one of australias premier motorsport locations " Mount Panorama" at Bathurst New South Wales

to celebrate the mighty "k" bike introduction world wide ..

planned events include a camping ,bbq and a "grand parade" around the "mount panorama circuit"

perhaps we could fill a whole straight with moving "k" bikes .

your participation would be appreciated , great comeradery , and a chance for tall tales of awsome experinces can be shared

put it in your dates callender ....SEPTEMBER = BMW "K" BIKE MEET AT "MOUNT PANORAMA " 30 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG

but perhaps one of us ...with rather better wordsmithing talents than i, work on this

just some thoughts

And the following pages:-

And here's a 1983 UK price list:-

So the anniversary will be on a Tuesday this year and I think that deserves a national, nay, a worldwide HOLIDAY cheers
