...and so was I. I had to retire my bike after it destroyed the head gasket so I place it with the other K's.

A suitable gathering for K1s? Or for Ks? I think so. What do we think.? I am sure we can organise a K meal/bbq/whatever for Friday and/or Saturday night.

I am not in the right place to organise it either but it would make a nice outing for the Eccentrics.

For those of us Eccentrics that might be interested location seems to suit a Dublin-Holyhead ferry early Friday. I already detect a tinkle of interest in certain K1 owners.

So, the challenge was set and it would be nice to support a K racing!

The best thing to do is make an enquiry with the organisers. Give them all the bikes details but as long as it's no later than 1990-ish I'm sure it would be accepted into the weekend. They like anything special.

Any Eccentrics travelling from Dublin via Holyhead ferry will be passing by Chester...been there many times, lovely place.

Slow Phil has probably tested his bikes on the A55. Might even have Heddlu certification!!

If you're all passing by Chester why not stay over with Bruce Williams?    I'd be pleased to book you all in at Williams Manor.

For travel from Dublin ferry is at approx 2, 8, 9am, 2.15, 2.30 and 9pm. 2 or 3 1/2 hour crossings.

Irish Ferries/Stena about €110-125 return.

If you book in the next 36 hours it's half-price. Well, the headline figure is 20% off over this weekend but when I arrived at the payment point, they gave me another €50 off for some reason (February - Dragon Rally).

As an added incentive for us K owners it's the 30th anniversary of our beloved K series.

I'd ride across the US and send it on from Beantown or Nueva York, adding to the fun. What do you reckon are the Big Block's chances of being allowed on UK/European roads with an insurance policy and US number plate? It's registered and fully legal here.

As far as I know for here all you need to have is valid insurance and be road legal. That's all we need to travel anywhere in Europe as tourists. Your US insurance would need to say it covers EU.

But have a chat with Will Crean [88], he found an insurer [www.tourinsure.com I think it was] that covered bikes but only provides cover to non EU residents. We think Australia and US are not in EU so that should qualify you. If you get the K to UK we darn well have to go over!.

See if it's any cheaper to come to Ireland. One way ferry to UK is €62 from Dublin...

TWB I also believe Air Canada do a bike air freight service from Toronto to Dublin for a very economical cost.

Darin Frow and Robert Scott of Endurance Legends are doing their best to get BMW Motorrad UK on board for K Fest. A meeting has already taken place and It would be nice if BMW could acknowledge the 30th birthday of a still very popular and well loved bike. I think I'm right in saying that Robin Carter is going to email Endurance Legends letting them know officially that K Fest is being organised and E/L will in-turn pass that on to BMW.    Fingers crossed. 🤞

Ok so this is the idea.

The K Fest had a whip around and got funding together for a US K rider called Ariel Widget to come to the K Fest. TWB has also mentioned coming along.

Now a proposal was put forward to get Charlie Bashford to come along too.

Being so modest he wasn't entirely on for it so this is my idea.

A few of us over here might just put 'some parts that we sort of happen to have spare' into a kitty to get him over here. Charlie brings them back down under. But....the parts get paid for down under at a price determined by the guys down under and the money paid goes into the Charlie K Fest fund. We contribute the parts this side. Plus, depending on geography, the sKroll may possibly travel with him.

So, to set the ball rolling I will put in a spare brand new unused 52mm fuel pump.

Someone puts a fair price on it, the €/£/$ goes in the Charlie travel fund and Charlie will arrive back down under with a fuel pump, a bag of parts and a mighty sore head.

We can do this with more parts......timing kits, water pumps or used parts as case may be...etc etc. A chance to get some hard to get parts.....and avoid postage costs. Maybe even post up some requests for parts too and see what we can come up with. Obviously not whole engines though.

Well after a brief visit to Mr Klompy on Sunday morning , we are very happy to say , RossKKo has kindly contributed to Charlies "Legends Fund" . 
I was able to procure a set of police crash bars from Rosskko's 86 naked for my police resto project. 

Klompy also came to the aid in the provision of additional parts which has helped us kick off a "kitty" for this grand event .

Monies are in holding at present until a suitable pass on can be arranged .

further parts are still being sought by myself , mainly city cases in painted finish,

Having just had a fantastic father son weekend I am going to throw out idea for both of you to make it up this way some time. A good trip for end of second level school...!!! I think we can find some spare Ks and bike gear up here.

I met Frank Miles in London on Friday morning for breakfast. Could have spent the day. Anyway his very nice K100RS SE was parked near us....

Mention of Bruce Williams at Chester, anyway Frank mentioned he will be coming along on the Friday. As we will be passing Chester a meet up is being arranged to 'collect' him along the way. Probably about the right time for a lunch stop from Holyhead to Donington park as its about half way.

We think about midday Holyhead and about 1:45-2:00pm Chester.

I have now booked accommodation for Friday and Saturday night, right beside Donington (price was too good to miss). Now to book the boat - Both Irish Ferries and  Stena are offering a  25 % discount at the moment.

Irish ferries have a sailing at 8.45 arriving 10:45 on the Dublin Swift.

Olaf/Will what do you think  ?

Over to you Will.....I am happy with whatever way we go. The Dublin Swift would allow taking the A5 rather than A55. In fact I would love to detour into Bodnant Garden as the laburnum arch would be in bloom. Its an awesome Victorian Arch built to a curve and planted with laburnum trees that completely enclose you in yellow blossom.

No need to call to Chester, Bruce Williams already had his arrangements made and won't be there so we are free to make our way over by whatever route suits us.

Will and myself are camping and we agreed I would bring my tent to share as the K1 won't carry too much. I will bring means of making coffee/tea as we both need that in the mornings!!

I have also been talking to Corkboy - we will be going for the 8:45 fast ferry. The 25% offer lasts for another few weeks.

Tom will also be coming on his K100RS Style so looks like we have 5 now confirmed. I can't decide which bike to bring (nice problem to have) but as no k1100RS are on the list of k's I may bring it.

I got approval from the powers-that-be last night. After all, she is going to Florence with her coven in February.

I just booked the Irish Ferry's Swift for the 8:45 sailing on the Friday, returning on Sunday @ 19:04.   I've also booked a room at Jurys Hotel, East Midlands, the same hotel as Simon & Tom.  

I had watched Guy Martin's Triumph speed attempt at Bonneville salt flats last night, and that got me charged up to do a motorcycle weekend. And as luck would have it, came across this thread.

Really looking forwards to it now.

It would be great to see who else jumps on board.

I am still trying to persuade my son Andrew to come along so we can bring both Ks. As a carrot he will want the hotel as he doesn't like camping. In a way I don't blame him as it's an asthma issue.

That late ferry on the Sunday is a good option.

There is also an Andrew coming from Norn Iron........

OK, I've dithered long enough. 

Gone and booked myself into the hotel...seems most of the eccentrics are opting for comfort rather than camping and makes it easier for getting away from work and travelling light for the weekend. Jurys' prices not too bad for 2 nights either. Rooms going very fast at these prices though...

See you guys there on 11 May. I'll either be there on a K100LT or a K100LT or, if I pull my finger out and get on with it, a K100LT...decisions, decisions!

I didn't get around to repeating the Nags Head comment here.

But it does seem a nice kind of option. According to the count looks like its up at about 50 K bikes so far.

I suppose it would seem a shame not to all meet in the one place. 88 and myself went to the ABR Ireland last May and the Saturday night was an organised buffet dinner for everyone with starters, desserts, coffees and great fun. Everyone being together was great, new faces, new friends, new stories.

We have been offered the sKroll for the event too.....so that's likely to travel with me as I have a bike tube for it.

Hoping to get up there for the weekend, might be on my own but if I can convince the wife to go pillion then there may be 2 of us (she fell off the back of an old boyfriends 50cc about 35 years ago and hasn't been on one since).

Would be up for meeting all those who are there!

Planning on camping on site as I like the idea of the 'have bike will travel' kind of life.

So, please include me in with any plans, or just what lamp post we're going to meet under as it would be great to chew the fat with some like minded folk.

Have a word with Frank Miles on the camping. Some of us are camping inside the track.

Looking like we have over 50Ks now in the mix so its looking good.

Nags Head now has a group booking and a menu which looks good at £24.95 in place so anyone looking at this needs to confirm. For time being I have said that the 6 Eccentrics [possibly 7/8] will  go for Nags Head to keep it all together. I know Paul/BAE is also in on this.
