There are only 4 of us irish folk on the cluster map. Would be good to see the spread across the island and where we all are. More clustering is needed! Very Happy

Hi GMcQ.....

I cant remember where it is but I think I am on it....

Might as well get us all on it and show the world. Useful for planning trips. I am also discovering there are a lot of K owners out there that we dont know about.

One of the BMW car forums I visit has some cards made up and leaves them on the model that they have to tell the owners about their forum, maybe we could do the same.

We could go further, perhaps.....a small, discreet sticker....about the size of those on Aussie number plate frames to be put on our own bikes. Just a thought......with the cards as well.

OK, I give up as well. How do I add my location to the map?

All I can do is navigate around it, there seems to be no way to pin myself.

In the portal page, click on Members Loacations and not on the map. When the page opens, enter your location in the box at the top of the page.

Indeed, I did that, and it brings me to carrigaline. But that's it. I have no option to mark that or pin it. Nothing happens on a right click, left click just navigates, and there is no button or other method on screen to mark it as my location.

Question

Corkboy

(hope I'm not going to feel like a langer in a minute when someone points out the obvious)

Its bound to be an unpleasant thing that attracts derision....we had a footy player called Alfie Langer...he was quite talented...so perhaps Cork is "quite talented" and short ..did I mention he was a tiddler.

Hmmmm, it's late so I'll give the readers digest version for now. In the near future I will give a discourse on Cork slang.

A Langer, like a Baaastard in Oz can be both a term of endearment or insult, depending on inflection and adjectives used, and also your relationship with the recipient.

For example, if someone dear to you (almost exclusively male - another thing they have in common) does something really stupid (of the "hold my beer and watch this" variety), he could be called a langer, or a stupid langer. (Oz equivalent is "you stupid baaastard")

If you know someone who is an out and out edjit - you would say he is "an awful langer", pronounced "that goul, he's a-nawful (sic) laaaanger!" We'll cover goul in another lesson.

Unfotunately there is no American equivalent, as our American friends do not insult each other, even as terms of enderement Laughing

It is also another slang name for the male member, as in "look at the size of his langer"

It is also a slang term for being drunk and disorderly (somethimes as a badge of male pride), as in "Jeezus, I was langers last night, I got the gawks (I vomited with gusto) all over the gaff (the establishment)".

Hope this is of assistance

Corkboy.

Corkboy that was beautiful....Slanga va to you and I agree that our American cousins are far too polite to call each other nasty names...to us Bastaaard is a virtual post script to every meeting...ie lucky bastard, cheap bastard, good looking bastard etc etc...must use the langer term with our expat irish.

I can see the next meeting turning into some interesting discussion.......let see if our Australian friends on the Big Island can decode among the Irish Eccentrics any of the following locations:

a Jackeen,

a Langer,

a Cat,

A Man from the Kingdom,

a Rebel County Man,

a Garden County man,

a Banner County Man,

a Bogman, a Culchie,

a Wee Mon [got that from my Grandad]...

Locally in Cork the tradition was to take a trip down Pana and maybe meet a few ghouls on the way. In any other county a 'fifty' was exactly that, a step thru' Honda 50. In Cork it has a different meaning- if you got a fifty it meant you wouldnt be jagging or getting a flea.

We speak in codes over here, but in truth the camaradarie that has grown up on this site is second to none, long may it continue.

According to my Cobh Uncle (who is a very healthy 97 ) the word "langer" was brought back from India by the Munster Fusiliers. Langur is a species of monkey that is very lithe and gracefully agile and can be a pesky creature at times. Of course the corkboys were renowned for spelling things their way and the letter "U" is generally omitted from the Cork alphabet as in this example... "Gwanwaywityaboy"

Thank you for the pointer on the Fusiliers.....having in my possession some contemporary watercolours of their miltary and dress uniforms I should have got that right...especially as a paid up member of McAlpines Fusiliers...... [can someone in Australia decode that one].

Back to 88KE.......sorry, trying to get some fun going.

Cappagh in Cork and Cappagh in Dublin.

Being originally from Norn Iron and now living in Dublin with a bunch of Jackeen's I am amused how this topic has gone off course ........

I was able to add myself to cluster map a few days ago - then realised it pinpointed where my bikes were - so moved the location to a different area but close to me.

Looking at the cluster map now the option to add location seems to be gone - maybe no more room on the map for anymore people 😕

I don't think so, I looked at other cluster maps and they were still able to add ,even though there were many more names. (I saw there were 125 added so thought that was the limit before I tried).

On a cluster map, looks like you just click once to add yourself. Still don't know why our one isn't working.

Thanks for asking.....my Grandad was from up ComberJohn's way....I found where his house had been but gone, but his uncles house is still there, in Ballynahinch....He has three sisters who lived in Belfast and lived to a good age.

I have some very nice memories of wonderful places like Castlewellan, Warrenpoint, Ballyhornan, Bangor, Newcastle and more. When ComberJohn mentioned a Northern Trip it was a case of go for it and needless to say we were not disappointed. I intend to go up again for some exploration.

Some of the best scenery is way up north....I am sure there will be more well attended trips. I went up to the NorthWest 200 in 1975 and enjoyed that one too, some nice scenery along the north coast.

For anyone that wants to explore Ireland I would recommend the Irish Photo Rally. This is the best event for anyone that loves to travel by motorcycle.

Also consider these locations as vocalised by Van Morrison

"Coney Island" is a spoken-word song written by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison and included on his 1989 album, Avalon Sunset. The narrative is accompanied by lush instrumentation which successfully[citation needed] contrasts with Morrison's thick Ulster brogue. The singer revisits his youthful trips with his mother to the seaside at Coney Island, in County Down, Northern Ireland. The trip from Belfast in the song names the localities of Downpatrick, St. John's Point, Strangford Lough, Shrigley, Killyleagh, Lecale District and Ardglass. The narrative vividly pictures a bright Autumn day of birdwatching, stopping for Sunday papers, and for "a couple of jars of mussels and some potted herrings in case we get famished before dinner." A reviewer noted: "You get a great rush of satisfaction here; in knowing that Van Morrison, despite his long, painful progress towards spiritual election, is still a ravenous foodie at heart."[1]

The village of Shrigley dating back to 1824 was replaced with modern homes and shops after 1968 but a restored village as seen by Morrison and his mother is being planned.[2]

The song ends with the spoken words:

Wouldn't it be great if it was like this all the time?
