Since we have had two great trips, the last one up to Antrim courtesy of ComberJohn. We are now looking at our next one...

Someone suggested a new thread....so here it is.

Exploring idea:

The Ring of Kerry and the Healy Pass. A great whole day run and some spectacular scenery. If I can work out how to post pictures I will put some up from a summer run [Bjorn, you did this one too, any photos?]

The Dingle Peninsula and Slea Head Drive. Also a nice whole day run.

Thoughts were to make a weekend of it so we can do both and perhaps go for the June holiday weekend [Sat Sun Mon 1/2/3 June]. There is also a bikefest on in Killarney which is on the Ring of Kerry and so its bikes bikes bikes all weekend. Easter may also be an option.

Accommodation is available or camping for anyone like myself who prefers canvas.

There are nice routes down to Killarney and a great atmosphere. We are not under any obligation to stay in Killarney and there are many other nice places available anywhere on these routes.

Perhaps consider rent a house or two and share for weekend? Most have two beds per room, so we have 6 beds plus another in the living room. We could go anywhere on the routes. This might allow us to explore some culinary skills and would also keep cost of a weekend trip within tighter limits and allow us to arrive Friday night. I would be game for a cook up a feast in a house and willing to hit the aprons. Could give rise to a seriously nice dinners and breakfasts.....I have a place in mind too.

http://www.killarneycountryclub.com

Do we have any preferences on this? Would be nice to get a few other members along.

Anyone travelling from abroad would be most welcome.

I'm in.
I've got a few photos from trips around the Ring of Kerry, Healy Pass and Dingle from the last couple of years.
I'll try and post them tomorrow.
Been to that Bikefest in Killarney too. Massive crowds.
I think a house would be a good idea after the summer we've had this year.
Somewhere to dry out at the end of a day!
If we are sharing the cost, it should work out quite reasonable.

What a great start!!!!

I did think a house was a nice idea, weather risks etc etc. Somewhere to dry out if needed and if we have one(s) with six beds the cost of three nights would be very reasonable. Those ones I posted are at a place called Faha, its about 6 miles out of Killarney but they are fully equipped, dishwashers etc.

I enjoy cooking and quite happy to volunteer some breakfast and dinner cooking if that suits us. I like to use wine when I am cooking, sometimes I even put it in the food.

Now we have a start....

In so far:

Crikey Surprised ....would I have to get golf bag shaped panniers?

June bank holiday may present some difficulties for me but too early to say just yet. Both suggested routes are really good.

It's great to see you picking up the running...ahem....voluntarily!

I was thinking should we regard the dates as not fixed yet? No date will suit everyone but we have choice of Easter, May bank holiday or June bank holiday. See what suits best? Format can be much the same. However I do think it great to tie in with bike fest and June weather might be better.

Seems too we have some tentative interest already. I wonder how many more can we get.

Just a thought - I wonder if any of us would be able to lend / get a spare steed for Hover K100 as to make him able to join us on the road. The guy I sold my F650 may oblige me with that - I know it's not a K but at least has 2 wheels and the right badge Smile . I shall look around if you want - how would you feel about it?

Its a bit sad when a nordie has to provide you freestaters with photos of your own scenery.
I took these shots last year when I was using my LT. Some have uploaded a bit darker than the originals.
Incidentally, turned down an offer of £1000 for my RT today. Aren't letting this one go as easily.
Also, was told yesterday by a young lady who had recently passed her bike test that my K was 'cool and retro looking'.
Innocent child. Here's me thinking it was a boring old fart's bike.

Is Waterville anywhere near there? It has has a great pub and a statue of Charlie Chaplin on the waterfront. It also has a v.upmarket golf course, which costs HUGE amounts of roubles to play. Visited there in a previous life.

Waterville is on the Ring of Kerry and is on our planned route. It would be a very likely stopping place for tea. If I remember Charlie Chaplin stayed at Parknasilla. I was there last year and the hotel was full of photos. It's not the cheapest around but fabulous grounds and parking if we were to stop there.

We would love to see anyone coming over, more than welcome to join us. Am sure we could source golf clubs somewhere.

ComberJohn

Thank you so much for the photos and the usual essential north south connection. You have done excellent advertising there for the Ring of Kerry. An excellent trip was had by all accounts, I hope we can repeat the sunshine!

@ Comberjohn, I see the natives are telling fibs to the tourists again if you can see Dingle from the Healy pass Very Happy Very Happy Fab pics, you must have been here on THE sunny day.
For the Ring its recommended you go anticlockwise around, i.e. out on the north side and back on the south side as that's the direction the tour buses go.
I did once go some the "wrong" way around with a 3m wide load and it was "interesting".

Was it you and not the K the young lady was talking about when she said "cool and retro looking"?Laughing

88KE, I will most certainly take any K owner on a trip on one of the rivers or the sea, weather permitting.
Believe it or not I've never been up close to a K100 with wheels. Did meet a K1100 owner one day, not sure if that counts!!

What a reminder....my first trip to Killorglin on a motorbike was on a Honda CB500-4. Lunch was at the Bianconi!!!!! and many times since.

Could be Killorglin, or a bit further round.... Glenbiegh maybe anyway it was a great day out finishing with a brilliant night in Killarney my memory is vague due to the Black stuff and local brews i was sampling.

Its Killorglin, just up from the bridge.
Killorglin for lunch, Glenbeigh for the chipper. Very Happy

Hover,

I see your steed does not quite meet the original performance specifications, or else lunch is a considerably longer affair. I mean, Killorglin for lunch and Glenbeigh for supper.....might as well be going to the pub next door in terms of distance.......such is the distraction of that beautiful drive from Killorglin to Glenbeigh......there is a left turn into the mountains on that route that I mostly fail to pass....for all the right reasons....a nice place to stop for dewatering al fresco....Clearly you found a distraction there in the form of a lake...!!!

A left turn just after Killorglin would take you up to Caragh Lake, the road winds around the lake and back down near Glenbeigh. It would make an interesting extension to the Ring. I think Avenger? (member on here) may remember it from the old Circuit of Ireland days Very Happy

I was waiting to see how you would describe it......I used to camp up by that lake, a great place. There is a cottage, one weekend camping I went for an early walk and the lady in the cottage was outside. Being the friendly type she was verty chatty and told me how quiet the house was, her sons gone to America and feeling lonely. Anyway I can still remember the breakfast, invited me in for breakfast for fear I would starve over the following week. I have yet to have another one like it. Her hospitality was incredible and she was much too old to be making breakfasts for strangers.

It most definitely is a great little detour.......

Avenger GT should indeed know it.
