Plans are designed to change. Col was supposed to retyre earlier in the week, but they sent, not once, but twice the wrong rear tyre. A brand new front and a dead rear..not a good combination, and no one can get him a sport demon in Orange. He is riding to Dubbo where he can get one and then we are leaving from here to meet others in Dunedoo, as planned.

No more sleeps. Ride safe.
Great night in coonabarabran.
Rick and Ainsjac spent half the night working out the longest way to get to Bingara.
If we are not there by sundown send a search party cause I am sure none of the places are on the phone grid

Heard from the guys yesterday arvo by phone. Spoke to Col,Saxon and Charlie, a lot of hoohahing in the background as they were tuning bikes in the carpark of the pub. What a sight that would have been, 12 K's all lined up with the tuning and what have you going on.Smile

Told me of Ulrichs excitement on the way up, but I will let him put that info up. Hope they have a fun and safe trip back to their repective homes today. Be good to see the pics of their escapades.

This is on my bike from the moment Col got his new tyre till I got home today.
Eventful is one way of dscribing the trip up by the quartet of Col, Rickmeister ,Rossco and my self. All will be revealed, in due time....just some thoughts, or teasers of the trip up....Col.....a farmer's fence, Rick....fire, Rossco.....wind against your body and for me....gravel. Hang in as I don't have all the incriminating photos.....and we had not even got to the event!
Ignore the time photo, as I forgot to reset it. The other two are correct.

Guys and girls had a great time, could of spent the whole weekend tuning and modifying and drinking beer and eating steak...of course seeing all the candy coloured police cars and being attacked by birds of prey on the way home was just icing on the cake.

My bike went great as did Rossco's ( when 0ver 4000RPM)...looking forward to the next get together.

hmm what do we have here ? ...some mods to seaniis exhaust ..... (theres something to say about corrosion ...was a PITA to get off )

November get together (Bingara - New South Wales ) - Page 7 2012-122

a sample of some of the bikes.. . "out back" klompys was picture perfect ...and rosscos was a "project" in all forms of description ... but great to meet the newer locals for sure .. fantastic that they made the effort to travell to somewhere that was out of the way ...and to meet a bunch of "could be weirdos" ...but they fitted right in ...its a strange mix of folks that we have ...but with all the differences ..we still share a love or appreciation of our machines ...which to my way of thinking.... is awesome... cheers to one and all November get together (Bingara - New South Wales ) - Page 7 212902

November get together (Bingara - New South Wales ) - Page 7 2012-123

departure ran a bit disorganised as mods were still happening ...klompy ,rossco and stan headed out south ...rickg margerat headed off northish , and us other 3 Queenslanders joined up with ulrick, col and seanii along the "safer route" back via the straight tar to inverell ...where we split ...3 off south ...3 off east then north

seaniis new exhasut was a delight to hear "on the throttle " ( a big grin there for sure )

Ok all you Aussies time to get another get together going.
A while ago Gith mentioned Bingera as a suitable place. I know he puts on a good feed and BBQ so will we go ahead with organizing it and which weekend in October.
Not the last one as that is the Gatton swap meet and I an not going to miss that 2 years in a row there is just too much to spend money on.
Kiwis welcome if their bikes float (ever seen a brick float Ha Ha)

Rick G

We do have a brick that floats over here in Ireland........Ha Ha Ha!!!

Keep an eye on our 2013 trip.....

There was some talk about a central meeting point for early September 2013 as a 30th. K anniversary and the 90th of BMW bikes.Bathurst was mooted as it is "central" and also because of the racing connections. If that is to be decided on, I would be happy to converse with BMW Australia to see how they would like to be involved. After all if we can get 12 Ks together for one night, what can be done with 12 months notice and planning. The thought of these bikes, some with zorsts, going around the race track is really interesting.

Ulli Grabau and Col left here about 7.30 this morning and were heading in the direction of Walcha and the route to the coast across the escarpment and twisty bits. Not sure that's the most direct route to either Orange or Maitland! I had a very fine weekend and it was good to meet other mad people and catch up with others already met previously. Great fun. Sore head.

Close. It was the rear rubbing up under the guard.

Rick and Col rode on ahead while Stan and I refuelled. Col & Rick had about a 5 minute head start on us for a 106 km trip and were travelling slow due to the repairs. It didn't take long for Stan and I to catch up to them. Oh wait, that was in my dreams. They were waiting at the pub with beers in hand. Muy grande cojones.
Across Mt Kaputar was one of the best little bits of the trip. If not for the ever present skippies and the still warm dead ones on the road side I would have enjoyed it a bit more (see previous comment re cojones)

That's about it. Unfortunately I did not get any pics of Mr Klompy and myself on the way up or coming home. We both arrived safely but it was a long stretch for me to do in one day. Made longer by the constant presence of the police. I saw one cop car on the way up and that was at Wee Waa or somewhere with an equally silly name. Think Klompy counted 6 on the way home though none clever enough to catch us.
I now have some air leaks to fix. Bike was a dog below 4k. In between fits of laughter Alby did try his best to tune it up, but in the end it was a case of get it home, fix it and then try again.

Thanks for the invite guys. I had an absolute blast. When I work out where exactly we went on the way up I will post a google map link.
Thanks again, ride safe and have September holidays already arranged.

rossco

EDIT
The link for the ride up as best as I can remember.

Did I enjoy it? F##k yeah.

Just in case people think they can't do something they have seen on the forum, here is my bike less the 24 hours after I got home.
It took me 6 months to get to this stage when I first started playing.
I came home and just started ripping bits off. I even looked at it and thought if I really needed to, I would be happy to do this on the side of the road (it would have to be a last option though)

rossco 1483km. Trip home in a straight line was 520km. Trip up with a bunch of ratbags was 963km. Guess we too a few wrong turns

Thanks all, had a blast. Charlie and I were discussing what we could do about the up-and-coming BMW celebrations next year and he wants to wear his boots and attach some sparkly tassels and diamonties.

I had no option with the colour of the umbrella; I had to suck-it-up and help my mates...

Skid marks! Just about fell of my chair! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I would like to thank all who went to the weirdos weekend. The generosity of people and their time to help those who fall over, break down ( even to the point that Blakey replaced the little cover over the choke lever on my bike...because it looked crap) astounds me.
This sort of camaraderie is outstanding.

Eventually arrived safe and sound and frazzled at 13:00 this arvo. Left Guyra (Uber Herr Seanie's place!!) this morning with Col. Departed ways near Singleton, with Col still having a 4 hour ride back to Orange.

Yesterday afternoon was spent fitting Sean's spare final drive (complete with stud!!), wheel with tyre and shock absorber. No dramas.

On reflection, the whole failed shock mount stud was a result of brain failure. Before the event, I was calmly bopping along at 140 - 160 Km/h when the speedo failed and within seconds, the ABS light lit up solid. I should have then stopped, had a bo-peep at the speedo sender thingo and the ABS doo-dad. I think that the nut holding the shockie had come adrift, causing damage to the wiring of the two sender units. But...no...she'll be right, mate!! Then the big bump came along, smoke everywhere, thought "the motor's blown up, but K motors don't blow up!!??" Then the smell of the burning rubber and non-rotating back wheel gave it all away.

OK...middle of nowhere...no drill, ezy-outs...replacement stud etc, beer still 2½ hours away...looking grim. Then, as any Aussie would do, you cobble it together with fencing wire and press on. Finished up doing about 350 Km to Sean's house with that repair...the main concern being the state of the tyre.

But, all's well that ends well.

Many, many thanks to my riding companions for escorting me to Bingara and thence to Inverel and then Guyra.

Special thanks to Uber Herr Sean, for having and lending me the bits to get me home.

My total distance would be in the order of 1500Km (Speedo failed)

BTW, some might find this hard to believe but Sunday was an AFD!!!

I do not have any pictures of the repair job, so if any of you out there have one, it would be nice for our international brothers to see what can be done if you're really caught out with a similar problem.

Ulli, (aka Rickmeister)

The most common reason to oil in the water, is a leaking oil pump seal...in combination with a blocked weep hole.

About overtemp...checked the water level?, it could be that the valves in your rad. cap don`t function properly...and the water don`t return from the expansion tank.

Then you would get vacume in the cooling system as the bike cools down......
and help the oil past the water pump seal.

yep inge has it in one .... same for me john, till i did a refurbish job ....ran ok though ...but i suspect that the tight rs fairing has a lot more heat to push through in and around city traffic ...so the temp guage is on ...looks like a water / oil pump rejuvination is on the cards .

good luck !

order the repair kit and we can have a working day. I did my pump and it seemed to last the trip.
Probably only thing I fixed that did work.
Do your pump and my air leaks then I can use your balance thingmies and we will both be happy

Pigs.

We stopped just after the dirt road. Col had said he wanted a 'go' of my bike.
I took his. Something more different than chalk and cheese comes to mind, but I dont know anything more different.
Due to the (lack of) heavy oncoming traffic Col was able to stay about 6 foot to my right the whole time. That is the WRONG side of the road in most parts of the world.
After about 10km he started making weird gestures. We were sitting on 120-130 and stupidly at first I thought he was saying we were going too fast.
Then he pointed to himself and made a full throttle type gesture.
I nodded and he left me. Very fast. Forward. Open face helmet.
Afterwards I was to find that my bike seemed to lose something around 7000 at 180kph
Have I mentioned testicles the size of a house yet?
And crazy? Not the frog type crazy. The head type crazy.
At least I know what she is capable of when the sheila owner gets off and a bloke rides it. affraid

Leaving the bar and going outside, I came upon a late night arcane ritual.
" Get your kit off Charlie!" someone screamed.
" My hands are lethal weapons". said another" One chop and ziss froggy is toast!"
" Rip out its entrails! " Yelled another voice." We can read them and find out what the weather will be like for the ride home."

Nice pics guys, looks like you all had a blast.

Good to hear you liked the zorst Sean, notice any gain in power or were you to busy screwing the throttle open.Smile

I am definately getting to the next one even if i have to sell a testicle( no wait they are in a jar on top of the fridge and i get to see them every now and again). Damn shame I missed this one, looked like a great ride.

Thanks to Charlie for delivering Seans zorst for me too.
