Crazy Frog and all,

Just purchased a 85 K100RT w/ 12,000 original miles. Hasn't been on road for two plus years, garaged for 27 years. I need to replace the fuel pump and need a reference for the "Month" of manufacture found in the VIN #. Fuel pump styles for this year appear to be split..up to 05/85 and then after to '92. Any help is appreciated. (Inge K had directed me to a site this morning, but did not help)

Welcome. Supply the VIN and we'll give it a go. Also, look at the VIN plate on the bike. The month and year of manufacture often appears there.

Somewhere on this forum I posted a file including pictures of a Ford pump housed in the original K pump.

I have lost a lot as my computer crash out. Crazy Frog, Can you let me know the address of my site that I have all this info; on?

It's a 10th month of '84 build date RT meant for the US market. The 10th digit is an 'F' and therefore a 1985 model year. Tomorrow I can check option codes and such other details in the Great BMW 'puter.

This link might become useful.

BTW.
About the link which I earlier did provide to you,
by typing the last seven digits of your VIN in the serial# field,
you will find the manufacture date in the column furthest to the right.

It was/is a paint code 579, Dolomitgrau metallic (Dolomite Grey) K589 K100RT built in Berlin on a Friday after the beer break, engine number 44840361, and rated at 66kw (weren't they all!?), but no option codes are published. Oh, and the salesman made $100 on commission...but was sacked shortly after and went to a Kawasaki dealership because of the complaints of a 'laboured' engine and ill handling issues reported by motojourno Kevin Ash long ago.

Inge K and Guest,

Thanks for your help. It is still dolomite grey and nothing wrong with a beer. Needs a little work but will be well worth it. BTW, first bike was a Kawasaki 750, many moons ago. Time to ride again.
