Total nube when it comes to the rivet gun for reattaching new latches, looked easy enough, separated the case, replaced the lock in the new latch, even crazy glued the bottom hinge slider that somehow cracked and separated (we'll see how long it lasts Integral Cases recessed Rivet holes don't fit the head of the gun...hmmm bolt it? 652573 ) and I'm about to pop some rivets to hold the latch in place when the head of the rivet gun doesn't fit far enough inside the recessed hole, flush, so that I can pull the trigger. Curses. Should I give up and bolt it like Brickee suggests in the older post http://k100rt.aforumfree.com/t3378-what-size-pop-rivets?highlight=rivets

I'm not worried about rivets, I've heard others talk about them popping off on freeways causing havoc so they use screws/bolts, my latch has been loose for ages but once those locks are locked, rivets or bolts, these cases are solid. Or maybe I've just been lucky.

Question remains a). buy a new rivet gun with tinier head that'll fit b). hammer it in with a rubber mallet c). nut and bolts?

Appreciate your feedback,
c

you should be rivetting from the inside of the case ...with the shoulder of the rivet mating to the plastic inner ,,,the rivet should go through the outer metal section of the clip by several mm ....

does that help or change things ?

When mounting rivets on the newer type of panniers I`ve made a small steel bush, which I use between the rivet and the gun nose.
You could also use the required amount of small washers.

About broken hinges, these are cheap as chips.

Hey Charlie, the rivet holes are the ones on the inside of the case. Funny how they don't make them big enough for a normal Rivet gun.

Inge I was thinking the same thing just never tried it but it sounds like you have. Guess I have the cut the Rivet pin as it would be sticking out if i use a bushing? I'll give it a shot this afternoon and fix this baby up.

Oh and the rail on the underside of the left case seems to be holding well with crazy glue, might be a different story at 80mph on a freeway, but let's see if my $3 theory holds!

Cheers boys,
Chris

Our roads are generally so bad and bumpy here, I made myself a couple of straps out of seat belt webbing and lots of velcro to wrap around the whole case and z frame (vertically) on a just in case basis. My lock lugs are really worn and I don't want my gold g string flying out onto the windscreen of the next truck behind me.
