I polished and painted mine, very successful, now nearly 10000ks down the track and no chipping, flaking or discoulration. I got the cases polished by the shop and got hold of this new paint called Diamonshine on the market from Kbs coatings:

well after reassembly and all the stuff ive done the tappet tick is still there ...although not quite as noticeable

so have decided to run the old girl anyhow

ive added some upper cylinder lubricant to the fuel (maybe it will soften the carbon on the valves and seats ) and some engine tune stuff to the oil to clean up the valve stems ..lifters (advetised to clear noisy lifters ) its a cleaner additive rather than a oil thickener ))

illl run this for a few thousand   to see what happens ....then change to diesel oil to clean out the gunk

possibly ive dislodged some stuff durring the engine pull down and reassembly for the output shaft (new sealant )

even possibly since ive done an oil and filter (ryco 418) change ....not noticed before the change in oil ..just wonder if the shell helix hx3 oil is crap

have some valvolene 20 50 (known to be good ) to go in when i need that change ,,,,but ill try the diesel oil first 

glad im keeping some of you amused along the path

the old bird is looking quite clean these days

Yep . .  works great if you have teenagers too. Unfortunately it works equally as well for them as it does us  

after a welcome ride out today

the tappet tick is just about gone completely

bit chilly about the south side of the big hills ...and seriously damp looking road surface ...caution on these bits was exercised

and noticeably cold at night in the hollows
the instruments are totally readable by these old eyes at night

nice to get out and about with some other bike folks

clocked up nearly 460 ks with the additives in the oil and fuel. seems to have worked wonders .

It has been down to -4, that was last week. Normally out of bed at 6.30am....have to get breakfast for the other half who is off to work by 8. If it warms up I get the chain saw out to cut more fire wood.

      Yep still putting in a few miles but not so far, beginning to creak a bit at 86yrs.
Busy with the wife having a broken hip replaced and then Gaul bladder removal. Trying to get her part exchanged but no takers...interested..?
Also house up for sale and moving to Kent nearer to the family.

I have been reading the forum and keeping up. Regards to four wheels better. About time he had a shave.

mm . .  80 pound is about $160 nzd. . . . we pay 510.00 over here (255 pound). your in the right place for that

front end mods are progressing



bolts exchanged for ones with good heads



and some clean up down near the calipers



had a disappointing bubble event whilst applying top coat to the forks and bridge ....bugga ...was hoping to fit it up this weekend

....oh well  !   striped down and paint drying ...hope fully next weekend ?

Man . . . this blows me away. I am only just gone 50 and looking at my riding future, imagining probably dropping off the bike @ around 65ish with the only thing I can see myself stepping in to then being a 3 wheeler Canam Spyder. Dude . . Ajays . . .Your have truly given me one helluva inspiration . . . .86 . .. and still riding like that . . . .wow

might have a little playing with oil to sort out the suspension damping to do yet


















might look better without the gaiters ...but the advantages of having them on outweight the clean look

I would really like one of those 75 fork.

Yes, it's the F&S sport fork....used on the early 75's and RS/SE models.

it makes a difference to me, that some of you are following the trail of "gerty"

just some feedback about the newish - different forks so far.

took a ride out to a work place ...early in the morning (to pick up a lost report schedule ) (about 100 k round trip ) 

the travel along the highway road conditions seems great , as is the stop and go "feel" amongst traffic in surburbia ...little ripples along the line of the road seem a little less distorted and it all feels tight and controllable

a "hit up" around the hills is due with this setup ,,,perhaps a cruise after onto "Kingaroy"  a well known road surface of typical "country roads " by the "old girl" should be attempted ?

True. My 11th month of '86 RS has it, and retained it when I converted the RS to the full fork assembly of a K75S. It does feel less spindly, and the front end is more planted when riding in the hard charging mode. A worthy upgrade/mod, easily done.

had a great ride over the hills of "Nebo" and "Glorious"  those forks made a huge difference,  not really appreciated till the wrist was wound a fair bit more open on the throttle  ...


ended up in Kingaroy

News ...sad news for all the brissy guys ...the petrol station-rest stop at Somerset Dam was in close down ....the owners have gone broke  (apparently ) and were packing up for the last time ...the locals will miss the conveniences of the service they supplied, petrol food ..etc  nearest location for all of them will be some 30 ks off now ...Esk or Kilcoy ,,,sad indeed

they will be missed dearly ....they helped me during the last "big flood event" when trapped on the road and unable to return to Brisbane ...a bite to eat is a very welcome thing when stranded without resources at all ...me and three family's camped at the community hall over night  whilst waiting for the flooded roads to fall

the springs will need to be exchanged in the old 75 forks

alby noticed about 2 inches clearance when loaded up indicating spring sag etc ....and I noticed that my low beam was way too low later that afternoon as night fell

reminds me actually of albys rs that sat low ...from memory the progressive springs were a good solution for him .
