On my way to work, on the motorawy at 60mph, I got a rear-wheel puncture. No dramas due to the bikes stability. After getting it repaired I decided to replace the tyre as the tread was getting a bit shallow.
After shopping around and finding a R$120 price difference on the same Pirelli tyre I went to get the tyre fitted. Upon arrival at the shop, the salesman asked whether I preferred a Metzeler to the Pirelli as I was already using them. After asking how much more it would be he informed be it was R$110 less than a Pirelli!
I was really surprised as I had always thought of Metzeler as an expensive brand. Moral of the story, it really does pay to shop around!

If it's the Lasertech then I hope you have fun with it! I took em off first thing when I bought my K! They drive like wooden wheels...

Metzelers were fitted when I bought the bike, never had any problems with them even on the wettest days. I don't think they're lasertech ones though.

Pirelli have owned Metzeler for decades now, but keep them separate enough that most people haven't been aware of it. Which tyre models did you end up using, as there are quite a few variations? Look at the sidewall, give us names like ME33, ME55 (both older models), Lasertec or ME77, or ME88, or ME880 Marathon. Lasertecs look like the older ME33 and 55 series but have more modern rubber/silica content. The last Metzelers I used were manufactured in Brazil. This could explain the price difference to you since they might not have been imported, and therefore perhaps not subject to import fees, shipping costs or taxes. Perhaps even the shop prices their tyres arbitrarily. For Pirelli were they the Sport Demon or another model?

Worst thing about lasertecs is they last so long and the missus made me wait til they were worn out before I could change them for ones made of rubber.

Where does that leave me?
Front tire is a Metzeler ME33 Laser, 100/90 V18 --- What does the V mean? R usually stands for Radial. Also has a 56V (55) stamped on it.
Rear tire is Metzeler Perfect ME99A, 130/90 V17 with an additional 68V stamped on it.
I don't race but I am interested in knowing if these tires are of poor quality.
Is there a table that explains the tire codes, in particular the number before the rim size and the additional characters that may relate to maximum load values and maximum speed values.

Thanks
Shep

No, Lasertecs are not tyres of poor quality, they're just not tyres... Cool

I drive Bridgestone Battlax BT 45 and they're sticky like hell...
