Hey everyone,

There are so many combinations out there that it's difficult to sort through and find relevant information for my setup. Hoping some gurus out there can help!

I've got a 1986 K100, and in installing a Motogadget Motoscope Pro V2.32. I also have a Marulabs BEP 3.0, mainly to convert the OEM speedo sensor signal to be compatible. I've also got a Motogadget Breakout Box B, as well as an M.Unit, which I will install once I get the basic functions of the scope sorted out. I've seen people run other setups, so if anyone feels very strongly about going in another direction while keeping good functionality, im all ears.

Right now I have the Scope and BEP installed, but I'm having issues with both the RPM and Speedo. There is very little info available on the BEP so I'm wondering if that's the culprit. The OEM lunchbox plugs are in the BEP, and I have the Red (power), Black (ground), Brown (ignition), White (Speedo), Yellow (RPM) wires connected to the BEP from the Motoscope.

First, the RPM is totally not working. The original lunchbox works, however the Motoscope is showing 0. I also checked the Grey/Blue wire on the lunchbox plugs and it's getting 13V DC. Any ideas what might cause this?

For the Speedo, im currently getting what seem like reasonable readouts in 1st gear, but then the speedo reads zero in second gear. What could cause this?

In the Motoscope there are a number of settings. I'm thinking this could also be culprit. I currently have them set as follows:

Circ (circumference of rear tire) = 2000 (approx for now)

ImpW (input wheel) = 6 impulses per wheel revolution

ImpE (input engine) = 1.0 (4 cyl, 4 stroke, 2 coils)

ImpF (RPM filter) = tried A, B, C, and D with no luck

Any gurus out there?

A couple of people have asked for information since this thread was started. That seems to indicate a common challenge for these people in getting the Motoscope Pro to play ball with the BEP.  I'll post my advice below.

NickyNicky wrote:Right now I have the [Motogadget Motoscope Pro V2.32] and BEP installed, but I'm having issues with both the RPM and Speedo. Connections between the Motoscope and BEP should be:

BEP BAT -> Motoscope Red
BEP SWP -> Motoscope Brown
BEP GND -> Motoscope Black
BEP RPM -> Motoscope Yellow
BEP SPD -> Motoscope White
Motoscope Green to a standalone momentary pushbutton Normally Open connected to ground

I believe the power being emitted from the BEP on connection SWP is being supplied from Pin 6 (Green/Black) on the OEM connector; Pin 24 (Grey/Blue) is not used for that purpose.

The BEP should be sensing the correct RPM signal from the coil and conditioning it into a square wave for use by the Motoscope Pro.  If the RPM is still not working after double checking the connections above, then you might want to directly pick up the signal from the Black/Blue wire attached to the primary of Coil 1.

If the RPM indication is wrong, the ImpE setting should probably be 0.5 and not 1.  There are two coils on the K100 and the BEP is picking up one of them.  This is a wasted park system so there are two firings for the pickup but only one counts for determining the RPMs. By setting the value of ImpE to 1, you might be doubling the RPM displayed.  I'd only play around with ImpF if you've decided to pick up the RPM signal directly from the coil primary.

The road speed sensor on the rear drive is in no way connected to the selected gear or even knows about the currently selected gear.  So if the display suddenly changes from an indicated speed value to zero, I can only guess that it might be an error inside the BEP.  That is the electronic device that is both conditioning the speed sensor signal as well as determining the gear display. I could suggest attaching a LED on the SPD output (anode to SPD and cathode to GND on the BEP) to observe whether pulses from the conditioning circuit suddenly stop when you select second gear and return when you select first. This I believe would be proof of this theory.

I went through the Motoscope Mini manual and compared it to the Motoscope Pro connections and features.  There are some slight connection differences but mostly the same advice holds.  For example there is no wire on the Mini for constant power as there is on the Pro. It's unfortunate that Motogadet didn't standardise on the wire colours on its gauges and it shows here between the Mini and the Pro.  The connections would be:

BEP SWP -> Motoscope Red
BEP GND -> Motoscope Black
BEP RPM -> Motoscope Yellow
BEP SPD -> Motoscope White
Motoscope Green to a standalone momentary pushbutton Normally Open connected to ground

The configuration options on the Mini are the same as on the Pro so the same advice holds true.

Currently trying to get a Motoscope Mini to work with a BEP 3.0.

Not had any luck with the speed.

I am getting conflicting information, I was led to believe that the motoscopes could read the signal from the BEP but I am getting some people telling me they can not.

Has anyone actually successfully used a motoscope mini with a BEP?

Thanks.

My experience with the speedo and bep has been bad. In the end I opted to put the sensor of the act kms. An acewell ca 085.

Now I am building a motorcycle for myself and the idea is to remove the original sensor and make an aluminum cap to put the sensor that comes with the motoscope mini.
I will only have to open the rear group and put a magnet on one of the tabs. Or build a specific hoop.

I'm going to do all this so I don't have to put the BEP.

I hope it is understood, because I use the translator to post. :-)
