Has anyone here seen these sliders before, had any experience with them.  They came with the  bike but the puck on the right side was missing. Am having trouble finding them (on any style) online for my K75S, would think the mounting points would be the same on a 100 or 1100.

As a suggestion, try aliexpress.com

Search on "sliders" in Motorcycle Accessories & Parts/Frames & Fittings/Falling Protection.

For those, especially in the US, who don't know of Aliexpress, consider it China's version of Amazon, owned by Jack Ma, CEO of Alibaba. Here's what a major business journal recently wrote about them:

"China is known as a hotbed of counterfeit production, and AliExpress is no exception. You can get all sorts of counterfeit items there, from electronics to clothing. Some sellers have also been known to defraud buyers by tricking them into paying before they receive an item and then disappearing with the money."

Of course there are many happy and satisfied customers, and that's how they keep the wheels turning.

I've bought a lot of stuff on Ali Express.  I've never had any issues getting refunds if a product doesn't show up, is garbage or gets damaged during shipping.

That said, I probably wouldn't buy anything there for more than $40-50.

I'm not sure how much good a slider would do in that location.  If a K75S goes down or gets tipped over you're still probably going to hit the turn signal/fairing and/or engine cover.

Watching traditional business models going down the tubes with anonymous catalogue or online sites being a major cause, and having spent most of my career in 'brick and mortar', I value personal experience and spoken advice when searching for a product. I occasionally pluck the ripe cherry from their (online) low hanging branches myself, so I'm not immune from the lure, nor above it, but I'm left feeling a bit cynical as I see small businesses get left behind or go by the wayside altogether.

Yes, I wonder about it as well, would help in a parking lot type accident (the majority of mishaps) but in a long slide or worst it could do more damage then good.  The slider is on held into the point the motor is attached to the frame with a 5" M10 bolt that can bend, pull, rip, brake off (maybe best) leaving a major repair not including plastics.  No need for Vegas, a person is always playing the odds, Alliexpress

I'm getting up in years now, and handling my top heavy RT is getting, let's say, a bit iffy.  Last Fall on my trip out west I managed to drop it twice scratching up the right mirror and lower fairing.

I would really like to see a mounting system for the crash bars that did not break away when the bike lands on it. I'd really like to have a set because if they don't break away they do seem to be able to provide a bit of protection and might even make picking the bike up a little easier.

Sliders look nice, but in a couple years of looking I have yet to find any for my RT.

If you look closely at the centre of the great, honkin slab of red plastic you'll see some R&G protection protruders protruding out the side. My hands were shaking as I drilled the pilot holes into the middle of those $950+ pieces of plastic, but if it ever falls over, with no Boxer cylinders sticking out, and no Brick to lean against, this bike would be flat out like a lizard drinking. Now, at least I've got something it'd be propped against. There are sliders on the front axle as well as the left hand side of the final drive/swingarm.

I have had these misfortunes and find the engine bars are actually good leverage for getting it back up again. Its possible to raise it enough balanced on the engine bars to get a grip but its still not easy.

My K100LT ended up with a punctured right hand engine cover and completely destroyed plastics, easy enough to fix especially as another very thoughtful member [88 Will Crean] was buying a lower panel for his K100 and was being given one in my colour........so he brought the lot, including ducktail and which eventually landed in my shed. This is a project coming back on stream. To be honest the engine bars would only have saved the engine cover on this occasion.

The engine protection bars (a.k.a. parking lot tipover bars) are rubber mounted so that they tear away instead of cracking open the oil sump or breaking things where the engine mounts to the frame.  It's easier to get home with a scratched faring than with a broken oil sump.

I shit-canned mine after the bike fell over in the garage and the damn right side "crash bar" tore a 4'"x 6" chunk out of the lower fairing panel when it broke loose from the totally useless lower mount.

I'm thinking of a lower mount for the OEM bars that is made out of a sheet of .100" stainless.  It would be one piece attached to the bottom of the oil pan using all the screws that attach that bottom piece(I think there is 13 or 14 of them).  It would be cut out for the oil drain plug and the filter cover.  The sides would be bent up to provide a mounting surface for the bottom of the bars.  Both crash bars would be connected to this single piece, helping to distribute any loads over both bar mounts.  The bars would be rigidly mounted to the plate as well as to the upper mounts.  With this mount, the engine castings should be protected in any but the most severe mishaps.

I should start working on it, and take some photos.

Non-breakaway bars were installed on some European K75RT police motos. A member at the world famous MOTOBRICK.COM had a set on his naked moto. There must be some out there somewhere. Attached are photos of both a former police and a naked moto with that style.

Yes,  put the sliders back on and the line from the C/L of the bike on the ground to the slider runs through the motor.  Thought the handlebars would take the hit at the top but not even close, to many years on Adventure bikes I guess.

Puts me in mind of the R1100s - there's a 'Boxercup' special edition that has exotic (for BMW) carbon fibre and titanium rocker cover, er, covers. Cost an arm and a leg to replace if you ground one. Unlike the rocker covers underneath them which can be picked up on Oohbay for beer money.

I actually got halfway through making a set until I decided they my cause even more damage. I believe I still have one around, I might have another look at it as I now have better access to machinery.http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,8456.msg64744.html#msg64744

Folks,

After looking high and low for crash sliders for my new (to me) K75, I located and bought these nifty British engine slider covers for K bikes.

Had them on my entire cross-USA road trip this Summer. One fell off within 120 miles of mounting, the other one fell off at about 1,500 mile mark. Both failures were failures of too little sticky tape on the back, not/not failures of the slider cover design.

I re-mounted both pieces while on the road as their skimpy OEM tape failed with M3 "Extreme" double-sided sticky tape, liberally and carefully covering every available surface on the inside of these slider covers. Haven't had any problems since, despite over 6,000 miles of road, heat, altitude, and rainstorms.

I have yet to drop the K75, although I'm sure it'll come... so I cannot vouch yet for their durability. However, their thick and slippery material will surely save all or at least most of the engine case cover from road rash, when the time comes.

They look great on the bike BTW.

Cost in USD incl. shipping was about $67. They are light and when by themselves, surprisingly small and thus pack into a small postal box.

Hope this is helpful.

Those stick on sliders look like a very practical solution.

My '83 naked K100 has crash bars with the bottom  solidly bolted to the engine, not on the intermediate brackets. In a fairly hard right hand side drop into bitumen at around 70 kph the chrome bars stood up well and together with a city case saved the bike from serious damage. However the impact virtually destroyed the pannier and caused the oil pan/sump to leak at the gasket.

I think the bike was also partly protected by the rider judging by my ribs and collar bone!

Interesting to read these posts. I have just managed to drop my ‘86 RS. My left foot slipped on gravel when getting the bike onto the stand and at 71kg I was simply not big enough to prevent the bike gently rolling away from me. As Two Wheels Better says: ‘Flat out like a lizard drinking’ the bike was impossible to lift solo. I’m looking for something that would hold the bike slightly off the fairing to protect it and improve the angle for lifting the bike solo in this situation rather than protect it if it goes for a slide down the road.

Police bars are bigger and make it much easier to pick up. K75, K100 and K1100 are all different and not interchangeable.

One thing about brick crash bars that I learned the hard way is that they are made to break away at the lower mounts to protect the oil pan in a severe crash. BMW also uses breakaway rubber mounts at the top which allows the bars to break loose and create even more havoc in a drop.

I would suggest replacing the rubber upper mounts with a stud and spacer to rigidly attach that part of the crash bar. Don't replace the lower mounts. They are important to protect your engine.

My Tip is put bike in gear then pull clutch in as you put it on stand You can then use clutch like a brake if needed. Works for little old me Crash Slider 112350
