Would someone please (re-)post the plans for the wooden engine support to use while doing a clutch spline job?

I don't happen to have a "BMW hoist 00 1 510" like the service manual calls out.

Since I've got a Harbor Freight motorcycle lift, I can't easily get a motorcycle jack underneath the oil pan.

I have a stack of 2x8's about 10 inches long that I put under the engine.  With the rear mudguard removed I put a sawhorse under the rear loop after the swing arm and final drive are removed.  That supports the bike well enough to slide the transmission back on a couple 4 or 5 inch 8mm bolts.  That is enough to get at the clutch splines to do a lube.

If you want to pull the transmission completely, pull it almost all the way back on the bolts, and put another pile of blocks under it before wiggling it free of the engine.  If I recall correctly, removing the stands from the transmission makes it a bit easier to handle.

I use a Set of sawhorses. I set one side, slide the 2X4 through the frame and then set the other sawhorse on the other side. These sawhorses grip the 2X4 and are not permanently nailed to the 2X4.

But a sawhorse won't work if you're using a lift because the lift is too narrow.

I used to use a 2x4 sawhorse.  Worked fine but now I use a metal sawhorse. Never had issues with the 2x4 sawhorse but the metal one seems a bit more stable.

I use two sawhorses and two pieces of 2x4 stacked. It gives you more room than one sawhorse and appears more stable.
Regards Martin.

I'm having trouble reconciling the number of stacked pieces of 2x4 with the number of sawhorses. I'm going to Khan Academy for some help.

Yeah I noticed that yesterday when I posted!! Picture was from March 2004, first spline lube I did on the bike. Great beer BTW ;-)
