Yesterday was a pretty nice day here in New York. Took the K100 out for a nice 90 mile ride on the interstate .She's running GREAT ! Was just cruising along at 75 mpg ,brought her up to 80 a couple times and down to 65 .She's smooth as silk now. So as I'm riding I'm thinking about my first really long trip on this bike. Haven't had any work for the past 3 months. Some guy stiffed me on a home improvement job I had lined up leaving me unemployed. This led to me giving up on heading west this summer.I worked on project bikes and got this nice 1966 Yamaha YM1 all set to sell.

She's running really good now.Friday night I get a call and now I have a job again doing some work in some other guys house.Things improved radically ! So now I'm out on my K thinking , shit,I might be able to head west this summer ! Spring and a nice day out on my bike changes everything ! Last night I started looking at google maps and thinking WEST !

That YM1 brings back fond memories.  That was one of my dream bikes when I was in high school.  305cc was a big engine back then when everyone I knew was riding 90's and 160's.

That's right, this bike was top of the line for Yamaha in 1966. It could be yours ! I started out on a 55 cc Yamaha Just picked one up a year or so ago exactly the same as my original one. MY FIRST BIKE !

K'mon over to the west.  Plenty of fine places to ride out here.  You just have to endure the flat stuff in the middle of the country.

Oh I know , I've been out there a few times on a bike  and can't wait to be out west permanently . My last trip out was on my 1975 Moto Guzzi 850 T. That ride lasted 3 months and covered 14000 miles. I really love the west.

I-80 from Davenport to Cheyenne.  God, how I hate that ride, but it's the fastest way across the very Great Pains.

I took 80 across on my first cross country ride in 1969 on my 250 Yamaha YDS3 .I swore I'd never take that road again. It was the most boring ride I was ever on. I took secondary roads on my last ride across on the Moto Guzzi. After attending Vintage Days at Mid Ohio I headed north up thru Michigan ,over the bridge to the UP then west on US 2 and other state and county roads.I found cheap and even free places to camp, better food in Mom & Pop places rather than corporate crap at the interstate exit ramps. I met people everywhere I went and it was a thousand percent better than riding on the interstate. I only use the interstates to move quickly in or out of an area and never stay on them.
