Hi everyone. A long time ago I had a K100RS back when I lived in New York City, then I took it to Mexico City with me (with my dog on the back), had it there a couple years before enough things broke on it that I sold it for parts.

Fast forward a few years, and having recently moved to Vienna, Austria I needed an inexpensive, reliable, highway worthy motorcycle. I found a good deal on a low mileage (60k km) good condition red 1988 K100LT. It's been good for the past year, but now things are breaking and I have decided to convert it into a cafe racer and get another F800 for highway riding. Which is why I'm back on the K100 forums.

So, thanks in advance for all your help! The next few months will be a big adventure for me.

Marc

Hi Marc and welcome to the forum.

Vienna is a long way for you but closer to us. You are now within K visiting distance. Some photos etc will be nice and don't be afraid to ask questions about things, especially things that break.

Here's my dog on my old RS somewhere between New York and Mexico. The second photo is my current RT in the Macedonian alps (he rides on the front when it's cold and/or raining). Speedo, tach, and some indicators no longer working, a side case is broken, I lost the mount for the top box, etc. etc. but the paint is good and it only has 70,000km so a perfect opportunity for a project bike.

Nope. Since he started riding at 2 months old, my intention has been for him to be able to sit on any reasonably sized motorcycle seat with no additions or modifications. Usually I put a sheepskin pad for him to grab onto though, I think it helps his grip although he does fine without it.
