My K100 has a bad conection at the ECU plug. If I hold the plug upwards towards the seat it will keep running. If not it cuts out over bumps. Any tips on cleaning the sockets inside the plug. The pins on the ECU are easy enoughy to get to but the bottom row of recievers in the puug are a different story. I have tried small bits of 240 grit paper and a tiny screw driver but no luck.

I have sprayed Deoxit and scrubbed the little buggers but still no luck

There is a two part DeoxIT available. The first can cleans and the second can puts a gold film on the connections to aid conductivity. About twenty years ago I bought a syringe of conductive grease had to use with care. I'll have a look tomorrow to see if I can find a name on it.
Regards Martin.

I have been riding around the paddock again and noticed that my left indicator is not working. I have cleand the plug on the relay and started wondering. Is it possible that the starter is the culprit of the engine cutting out and back in again??????? It seems to be the problem with the blinker.
Is this even possible?

I have tracked the problem down to a dogey ECU or harness plug. Has anyone got a spare of either that they can lend me to test with?

blinker issues and running issues are usually associated with a bad earth , and a poor working set of relays , ie load shed relay , fuel relay , and blinkers playing up is just a clue to a bad earth through the starter motor for the load shed relay etc

I recon go through the fuse carriers clean them up ,locate a couple of standard relays , and work out the logic of the load shed relay ...and get one from a wreckers after you have figured out the type that will work for that location ..they are not all the same
replace the earth cable completely  from battery to frame  and service - clean the starter brushes ...not hard to do ...and worth every cent of the time spent

good luck marc

I have cleaned the handlebar switches, all the earths, added an earth from the starter bolt and under the tank to the gearbox/battery earth but didnt think to replace the original lead. I have cleaned the pins on every connector that I can find and will start on the starter tomorrow. It still bothers me that it will run ok if I hang on to the plug at the ECU, That leads me to believe that I have an issue there. Either in the harness or the unit its self

the hes (hall effects sensor ) cable is covered with a boot marc as it gets to the harness

might be a good idea to clean both sides of that also    its usually a flat pin 4 pole connector …+ and shield

and a short cable off the ignition brain .

I wonder if you holding that brain connector your also moving that short lead ?

the connector with pins on the ecu  can be cleaned up pretty easily ...but the socket (on the cable ) should also be cleaned  as it does pass some electronic signals  to the under seat injection control computer

I have successfully used some cardboard strip about the right size  to probe the socket of the ecu to the loom ...with a quick surface spray of electronic cleaner  to start with ...then deoxit after the strips came out clean rather than dirty looking

good luck mate ...keep at it

After spending yesterday evening having a beer with the bike and doing some serious reflection, I decided to pull the ECU to bits and see if it was anything obvious. I have very limited knowledge of computer boards but anything was worth a go.

So this morning  my hangover and I started the bike and pushed down on the ECU and the motor stopped. I pulled it out, removed the screws, bent the retainer clips back and removed the lid. The main board was fairly clean looking but had a fair bit of movement in its retainers. There is a hole with a post in one corner of the board that looked like it should have a screw through it but the screw was missing. I used a computer tower screw in there and the first thing it did was snap off. It did however stop the movement of the board. Upon refitting, everything works as it should and the bike is running like a dream. I put a dot of super glue between the board and broken screw just to make sure.

lol! lol! lol!
