The belly pan was available from -88 as a retrofit kit, but standard on the "Motorsport" model.tunza60 wrote:Does anyone know if early K RS's came fitted with a belly pan/fairing? I saw a pic of an 83 one the other day and i liked the way it looked, but i didnt think they came as standard..unless it was retro-fitted.

Dredging up these older posts is heaps of fun. This fine forum is a specific reference source par excellence!
Since I have an OEM belly pan in white without brackets, and two years to refinish and prepare it, I'm thinking about the proper mounting brackets and have considered fabricating a simple and sturdy one similar to this post. ETK shows two separate brackets and I'm afraid I don't know the difference 'tween them other than one looks far more fiddly than the other. Both catalogued belly pans are the same number/style, but more importantly, both mounts and associated bits are still available from Dingolfing (the warehouse in Germany) for the same price, tho' one of them requires the extra bits n bobs to make it work while the other is more straightforward.
I have in my possession about one third of the original mount which rusted and broke off the remaining pieces. It looks like the image in the first picture.
Can any of our esteemed forum members shed a little more elaborate illumination on the difference and the reason for these two different types of mounts on the same style of belly pan? What I'm getting at it does anyone see any definite reason why the mount in the second image couldn't be used since it looks simpler and requires far less bits?
Exhibit A:
Item 2 is the part in question...part number 46 63 2 315 474
Exhibit B:
Here, item 3 is the part in question...part number 46 63 2 303 626

The difference is that one mounts to a K100RS 2V engine (Ex. B) and the other mounts to a K100RS4V engine. (Ex. A)

You beauty! Ta. That's what I needed.duck wrote:The difference is that one mounts to a K100RS 2V engine (Ex. B) and the other mounts to a K100RS4V engine. (Ex. A)*
*It is interesting to note that the rusted mount, with a deep V in it on the RH side, which came along with the pan was bolted up to a mid-'80s 8V motor. I got it from Mick V.

Thanks for that. That will be useful to a few people....I was not aware Siebenrock did the belly pan kit. I see they stock the 16V version's mount.MikeP wrote:Siebenrock list the bellypan and the 2v mounting bracket.

Its cost at €105 (euros) plus unknown shipping costs most likely makes it more expensive to me than the OEM version at the US dealer cost of US$147 (retail $255). I'm gunna go with the more angular version as in the above image exhibit B, part number 46 63 2 303 626.
The question now is whether to attempt to get it painted metallic red like my bike (and possibly 3M clear film cover it) or simply semi-gloss black so it's not too susceptible to stone chips in use and in black, 'hides' a bit down below...
Thanks for the contribution to the info pool.

Get it professionally done in a truck bed liner like Line-X. Bulletproof.
