I recently purchased this old girl, 12/1986 with 18,500 km (seen here towing it away from place of purchase), and have been busy riding and servicing it.  In pretty good nick although I have an overheating issue which I will ask about in the repair forum.

Welcome to the forum from the northern territory.

That's a rather nice K.....so don't be afraid to ask any questions as someone will have answers for you.

A few items you can check easily...

Does the cooling fan come on?
Can you turn the blades by hand?
Does overheat warning light come on?
If fan comes on does it come on before or after the warning light?

The fans go wrong, particularly from lack of use and can seize.

Any signs of water or coolant leak? Or is coolant at correct level.

Down the road and depending on history you could potentially have a water pump issue but resolve other things first. Water pump usually shows up by way of coolant leak or coolant in the engine oil.

Due to age your fuel lines are likely gone hard and working on the bike now may well crack them. Replace them but go about 1 1/2" longer on the two at the front and you can then slide tank back to access coolant filler cap or to access the electrical relay box without disconnecting it.

Welcome to the site, check the tank for signs of fuel pump damper deterioration cased by E10 fuel. Probably need to replace the fuel filter and all fuel lines. Make sure the lines in the tank are submersible rated. Check the Z shaped breather hose, known to deteriorate and cause problems. Also the small black caps on the vacuum ports on the throttle bodies. Bricks also like a feed of Caltex Techron 1/2 a bottle to a tank, do it with two tanks.
Regards Martin.

Good move to start a new thread for your K.

As things arise you will get answers and some may be by way of links to other parts of the forum and you will have what you need in the one place.

With you K its worth looking at things likely to become issues through lack of use. Rubbers, hoses, fuel lines, brake lines, seals and so on suffer with age. Seals in particular suffer more from non use than a lot of use.

Any time you open a screw nut or bolt a dab of copper grease is your friend......
