Here's a little tip that I've used to get the 'fat' end of the coolant hose through the right hand side engine cover:-

Fitting coolant hose through RH engine cover. Sam_1610

Good use for white cable ties, eh, Blakey?

Paul.

HoHo White cable ties, Yes well Blakey will be along to tell you how much more reassured you'd have been if you had used red ones Paul. You've got to learn to take the pressure off mate.

Paul, the use of white cable ties, in this instance, is acceptable. bounce

The trick I use to get that hose through the opening is to crease it lengthwise and fold the hose in upon itself, forming a "U" (if one were to look at the cross-section). Then while maintaining that shape, feed the pipe into the hole and pull it through. The hose will easily expand back into an "O" cross-section again once this operation is complete.
