solved a number of issues in the last few days
front brake master leaking , and removing paint as it did so ...bugga !
rear disk rubbing badly on rotation
engine cam cover leaks
centre stand return springs wrong angle at one end ...(wtf )
a package arrived from blighty (motorworks in this case ) with resolution bits like, service kit (piston for master cylinder and seals )
new engine cover seals , and old second hand centre stand springs
whilst waiting for the stuff to arrive I made a rubber seal to mate to the piston pushrod and circumference of the master cylinder housing which pushes home into the brake side perch with the aid of a couple of bolts
I figured that the piston seals would - could let some fluid pass as the bore and rubbers aged ... I got some hole punches and thumped out some rubber into the right size for the job , of course tested the theory on old Gerty first , (which does leak like a sieve , but not too bad ) and it worked ....well for now at least .
so applied the same to the recovered and reworked master cylinder which I had , replacing the old piston with the newly arrived replacement . bloomin brilliant ....
found another old rear disk (with cast iron brake disk (retired)) with what appeared to me to be a good carrier which ran as true as you could want , as the one from Floyd was bent fairly badly , the floating steel disk just followed the bad carrier ...
a Charlie ...quick strip clean up and repaint , had the carrier ready to mount the floating disk the next afternoon , upon mounting, it ran excellently as in neutral , engine running , the rear wheel rotated freely
the recovered engine case gaskets were leaking badly in all the usual places , like the low point of the cam cover especially . measured the old and hardened rubber seal at about 2.38mm in thickness along the seal area . the new seals arrived measuring about 3.00 mm and supple as you would want , fitted up yesterday and let cure as I had applied gasket sealant to the retaining grove around the cover . so far with a bit of running happening no leaks ...yippee !!!
and of course Charlie treatment to centre stand springs had them installed also the next day ,, with definitely a good centre stand return action now
now to bed in the brakes over time in preparation for club registration ....not too far off now ...at the end of this month
