I brought home a 1983 K100C yesterday. A chap tapped me on the shoulder at Spa and asked if my Flying Brick was a K100,when I replied yes he asked me if I wanted to buy another. I told him I was interested,a deal was done and I collected it yesterday morning.

WHAT WAS I THINKING?

Buyers remorse has now set in,it's not beyond restoration but I've just had months on my Brick and as it's not fully developed, there's more to do yet.

The brakes are seized and the pads had expanded so much, brute force was required to get them out. The frame needs refinishing as does everything else. The petrol tank is FULL of melted rubber and sticky residue.-when will I ever learn??
Against everything I wanted to expect,I've had it running and the motor is sweet and the gearbox seems OK-ish.

K100s were produced in 1983?  I thought the first came off the assembly line in 1984.
Learn something new every day or, could that be a prototype worth untold millions? Smile

The K-bike was launched in late 1983. This could be one of the original ones. What's the VIN#?

That's normal for a model w/o a fairing.

If my memory is correct you have the oldest K on the forum.!!!

I think they started out with matching numbers but then went out of sync, someone with better knowledge will clarify this.

I am not proud of this point you've just made, thanks pal!!

The petrol tank also has the standard hole at the bottom lowest point but unusually,in my experience,it's at the opposite side to the pump. I'll be welding it up this afternoon.

Well, my RT is 08/84 and it came after my 92 LT had taken me everywhere for 3 years. My first reaction was that it felt so much smoother and more lively. Could be the well used 100k miles on the LT and the 36k miles at the time on the RT.

The matching numbers would clinch it for me, there are a few on the forum but its a very small number.

I must admit that I thought all the BM's were matching numbers.
It would seem rarer than I thought. I was seriously considering going down the Cafe Racer route over the winter to make a few £.
I'm just note sure I have the interest or time to carry out a full restoration-My Cobas Flying Brick needs more attention.
