G'day again to all the Aussies who like a bit of fun for a good cause. The Scrapheap Adventure Ride is on again to raise funds to support Down Syndrome sufferers.

This year the destination is Urana in south west New South Wales so it may be more suitable for some members who reside in the southern part of the eastern states than last year's destination.

Last year I came up with the tag of "The Brick Brothers" for our team of hardy adventurers and it would be great if any forum members wanting to participate used it again regardless of whether I make the journey or not (I hope to go as Phil is going to buy me a beer if I get there).

Rockman will no doubt again be part of the Inverall team who are a great group of riders who have been enthusiastically supporting this very deserving cause for a number of years.

The info about the ride and it's history can be found at this link.

Any forum members who may be new or not aware of last year's event can read about the 2014 antics of our crew here.

If anyone is pretty sure they are going to give it a go this year please PM me and we'll chat about getting our registration up and running.

Cheers

What's the date Gaz, I think it maybe the weekend after the Far Cairn Rally which will leave me out.

Probably time for more discussion (encouragement) on this topic. The venue at Urana is out in central southern New South Wales between Wagga Wagga and Jerilderie, not that far from Coolamon Rickmeister.

This locality puts it within 500-600 km of locations such as Castle Hill, Goulburn, Wollongong, Robertson and less than 400 kms from those inmates from our great southern neighbour, Victoria. Come on you all know who you are and it would be a good opportunity for another get together such as the weekend in Eden earlier in the year. AndyB should have the starter motor sorted by then. Rick G, if you thaw out from today's snowfall in sunny Queensland you may be able to extend your journey to the Far Kairn rally through to the following weekend and meet up with some of those you missed in Eden.

I look forward to hearing from some of you hardy travellers.

Cheers

Well considering we aren't going to Phllip Island then the scrap heap is a good bet now. Just have to figure out where to fill in a week although that wont be too hard.

OK all of you Brick Brothers out there! I've registered the team so anyone who would like to go on the ride look for the team when you go to register and be part of it.

Here is the web page link. 2015 Scrapheap Adventure Ride for Down Syndrome

Hope I get some kompany.

Cheers

To encourage any of you that don't feel the need to tempt fate on dirt roads with their K bike I thought I would refrain from planning to follow the type of goat tracks that I plotted last year. Mind you if no one else decides to come I'll probably explore some back roads so you can reduce my chances of falling off by coming along and making it a K100 Forum get together as well as making a donation to the Down Syndrome cause.

Start planning PK.

Cheers

This event is getting closer and the number of forum members who look like attending is very small so far so come on one and all and make a $100 donation to Down Syndrome and make this into a forum get together as well.

Rockman and Rick G have indicated that they may be goers. This year the entry fee (donation) is the same for either Scrapheap bikes or anyone's regular bike so no one has to feel any pressure to come up with an old bike project to come along. Also my circumstances this year mean that I will not be able to put time into soliciting sponsors so I am just paying my registration and going to enjoy the ride and weekend so don't let that aspect hold anyone back from attending.

This link will show my planned route from the Hunter Valley at this stage with a likely pub stay overnight somewhere around Grenfell. Not sure yet whether I will leave Thursday or Friday, probably depending on whether I have travelling companions or not.

If we can get a few from NSW & Qld we may be even able to entice those gentlemen from Victoria to come across their northern border.

So lets get some more names on this list and oh! by the way the commemorative T shirts this year are a lovely shade of blue, in fact a fine match for a very nice K1100RS that lives in Castle Hill.

Gaz80
Rockman
Rick G ?

Cheers

G'day Gaz
I might try to join you somewhere around Gulgong as I'll be coming south through Coolah. I'll probably spin off south of Wagga somewhere and stay at my sisters place in Henty friday night and go on to Urana sat morning.

The rest of the crew from Inverell are on little trail bikes, posties and such and are going a dirt route down through Pilliga, Condo etc. A bit sandy in places so I wont take the K that way.

Post your plans when you have decided when you are going. I'm thinking of leaving midday-ish thursday and staying overnight somewhere on the way, but that might change.
Phil

I spent an enjoyable morning in the kompany of fellow inmate Tom Grabau this morning and without so much as a threat to his personal safety he has decided to join us on this adventure and from the post above Rick G has firmed up his attendance which is more good news.

Don't forget to add yourselves to the Brick Brothers Team when you register.

So now we have the following rag tag band;
Gaz80
Rockman (who is part of Team Inverell)
Rick G
Tom Grabau

C'mon you southerners!

Cheers

I've spent more than a few nights in that pub, but thats a long time ago. Friends used to live in Quandi.

I might be a goer for the Scrapheap run, it's the middle of school hols, got nothing else planned seriously and a recent $1000 K100RT.

I'm off for that week anyway, to be more accurate by then I will likely not have a job anymore. It'll be hols anyway if I'm still employed.

I pickup the RT this weekend, I have to go through it first to see if anything is needed before I can use it.

Another red bike Sad I really have to get the paintbrush out soon.

It's getting closer boys and girls and it's about time to register for those who are intending to go.

Here is a link to the registration page. Don't forget to join the Brick Brothers Team when you register as it's only me there at the moment (and I haven't got any photos up yet either).

Tom and I are going to leave the Hunter Valley on Thursday and plan to be in the campground at Urana on Friday night. You have to make your own booking at the campground but details are on the website.

Another convenience is that you can pre-order meals for the weekend online via the Scrapheap website and they probably appreciate as much notice as they can get re numbers.

There must be more forum members from the Sydney/Blue Mountains/South Coast/Victoria areas that would enjoy a good ride and meetup.

As they say on the quiz shows "Come on Down!"

Cheers

I knocked up a couple of temporary sidecovers for the K75 today as I could not contemplate putting stickers on my newly painted tank. They will do the trick in identifying me as a Scrapheap participant.

Rockman, Tom & I will likely be at Gulgong around lunch time on the Thursday and we decided yesterday that we'll aim for the Bland Hotel in Quandialla for our overnight stop, taking RT's recommendation (are we allowed to mention your name out there RT?).

Are you still planning to leave your abode around lunch time Thursday?

I had a visit from Rickmeister on the Yellow Beast yesterday afternoon while he was out testing his water pump rebuild. Over a cuppa he turned green with envy talking about Tom & I planning an overnight stay at the Bland Hotel in Quadrialla on our way down since he can't make the trip.

As anyone who knows the Rickmeister will attest, he loves a stay in a real small town country pub.

I've finally registered for the Scrapheap (Brick Brothers too!). Am going to try for Quandi Thurs night too, but will see what happens.  Probably heading to Temora for Sunday night, visit an old mate.  Head home Monday.

Thanks for putting that up Keith. The donation link at the bottom of the story is not working but I have just sent an email to them asking for it to be fixed as the link I gave them is working and listed below.

OK Brick Brothers!  Hope you are ready for the road.

I had a call from Rick G today who is resting up in Shepparton, south of the border for his big ride (just under 200Kms) to Urana on Friday.

Tom and I are planning to leave Branxton truck stop around 8:00am tomorrow morning headed for the metropolis of Quandialla where we hope to find Waz (cross your fingers) and Al.

The bugs from Tottenham last weekend have been washed off and the K75 repacked ready to go again with the addition of the custom sidecovers advertising the ride.

Packing tomorrow and leaving for Quandi.  I'm riding the scrappy RT (now new and improved with K1100 gearbox and paralever rear suspension); unless I still detect oil still escaping, thence I will ride the 16v(which I know I can trust).  Marie and 4-legged family accompanying in the Mazda towing our camper trailer.

good on you Gaz , hope Tom , Al and Waz get a good ride in .
If you go to the Aussie Hardarse assoc. site , and see if they are still doing the 1600 km challenge , you should qualify.

Tom & I got away as planned on Thursday morning and headed west then south west into cold blustery winds that persisted all day. The warm koffee at Merriwa was welcome then a quick fuel stop at Gulgong had us heading for Wellington where we had a leisurely lunch.  On down through Molong and out into the agricultural areas of broad acre farming which at this time of year is mostly yellow fields of canola as far as the eye can see (check out Al's photo in the Let's Play Tag thread) along with hundreds of bee hives stacked up around the fields where the bees are working hard at pollinating and the apiarists are harvesting the honey.

After passing through Grenfell, which is the birthplace of a famous Australian poet named Henry Lawson, we pushed on to the Bland Hotel at Quandialla which was to be our overnight stop. Al and Marie had arrived before us but work had delayed Waz's arrival and he was now going to ride straight to Urana on Friday. The four of us spent a pleasant evening in the hotel and RT, who recommended this stopover, can breathe easy as the hosts were as friendly as he had suggested.

Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015 Img_1811

Friday morning saw Tom and I winding our way south via some "roads less travelled" (in my defence they were all sealed and rarely a car in sight) while Al and Marie with their camper took a route along the more major roads.

Tom and I had a break at a nice little town called Coolamon through which the Rickmeister had led us back in March on the Eden adventure.
Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015 Img_1812

When Tom and I arrived at the Urana caravan park we found that Rick G and Marg had arrived a few minutes before us and were still booking in and Al and Marie were already set up in "K korner".
Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015 Img_1814

By the time we were all set up Waz had rolled in as well on his RS.

Here's a shot of Rick, Marg and Tom's Ks with the lake that surrounds the camp ground in the background.
Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015 Img_1815
Saturday lunch had been arranged by the organisers at the Morundah Hotel which was 50 klms to the north (it's a big country out here folks) and well worth the ride.
Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015 Img_1816

and for our non-Aussie friends I thought I'd give you a look at the wide open spaces in this part of our country.
Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015 Img_1817
On our return to Urana on Saturday afternoon the Scrapheap Riders gathered in front of the memorial hall for a photo shoot. Here are the Brick Brothers; starting from the left with Rick G in the black jacket, Al-58 (standing behind Tom), Tom, Rockman, Waz, Gaz80. Unknown photo bomber with cap on right.
Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015 Img_1818

The adventure this year attracted about 80 riders to raise funds for the Down Syndrome cause.
Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015 Img_1819
At the Saturday night dinner Perry Gilsenan who is the instigator of this event announced that the weekend had raised about $60,000 in much needed funds and the effort will go on with a venue announced for the 2016 event. Thanks to Tom, Waz, Rick G and Marg, Al and Marie for joining me on this ride and not forgetting Rockman who has attended most of these with Team Inverell from where he lives.

Of course Waz always likes to add a bit of interest to the rides that he attends with us. This time he kept the wheels on the bike but thought he would try to work out a few different ways of starting the bike without using the starter motor. The K100 Forum push team worked well and the paddle it while dumping the clutch and simultaneously pushing the start button was employed when the push team were not present. He obviously had it down to a fine art as we received a message from him on Sunday afternoon that he was home safe.

Tom and I rode through to Rylstone on Sunday on our homeward trek, around 600 klms for the day in very pleasant riding conditions albeit quite cold when we were in the Blayney/Bathurst/Sofala section. We enjoyed an overnight stay at the Globe Hotel which we can recommend to anyone passing through that way and headed for home on Monday morning. I thought I may have parked my K75 too close to Waz's RS over the weekend when it resisted starting for a little while but eventually fired up without additional help before the battery died. We arrived back at home base around lunch time Monday.

For anyone interested here is a map of the round trip that Tom and I took, a little over 1600 klms.

It's beautiful country, I've always enjoyed it. Our run home took us through Temora where we visited an old school friend of mine. We used to ride trailbikes together back in the early days. A very enjoyable weekend and good company too.

That was the first decent run for the 100RT, it's proved to be a very good thing. Fastest I've ever seen on a K bike without even trying.  I did behave myself a bit better on the return trip, but still ended up travelling way quicker than the constabulary would approve of.

I can highly recommend rylstone and the globe hotel, good feed out the back, and the camp ground at rylstone is cheap and very quiet
