Slowly working my way through resurrecting my old K bike, a few questions.
1. The fuel tank, has now been stripped of paint, there are two tabs, one on each side, to the rear, that I presume can be removed without issue? Also similar thing there is a flange further forward with a hole through it, it serves no purpose now without the fairing, can this flange be cut back to the line of the tank without compromising the tank, looks like it is sealed and I presume the tank would have a sealer ex factory?
2. I like the look of the factory exhaust although it is too long and doesn't give a a good look at the armless wheel of that side. I understand there are tuned headers that run into the exhaust, can I trim 10 inches off, re fab the end and weld it back on? Obviously looking for a little more sound as well.

The tabs at the rear of the tank are attachment points for the front end of the sidecovers. I'd say you could cut that off no problem.
The front "flange" as you call it would be the attachment point for the radiator cowl. I've seen that removed ok too. Here's an example.
If you had a radiator cowl there and you're no longer going to use it, I'll buy it off you.

So you want an exhaust collector that works, presumably you're not gunna use panniers, and can use just about any 2"/50mm upswept cannister you like? Here's your 'local' answer:

It's perfectly Ok to cut the tabs off the back sides of the tank to the alu welds as I have done. If you're good with a grinder and don't get too close you can slice of the front side cover tabs as well.

Or use an abrafile rather than a grinder as it's much more controllable.
