It's been backburner planning pretty much.  Cygnet Folk Festival in the south and Tamar Valley Folk festival in the north are a week apart.  I've been to both before and have some Tassie friends that usually do at least one of them too. Been down by bike 4 times now, its been a few years since the last though.

Nope.
It has been mentioned a few times and probably better to go in May than September.

Better in March than May but I'm up for whatever suits.

Quick recap tho, I'm in Adelaide almost a year now as a carer for my folks but should be able to get a leave

pass by then!

I did have plans for this year, posted here but had to cancel due to above. It would suit me to organise this

even if for just a few riders.

The music festivals is a good idea even tho earlier than my prefered time, also the Forth Blues (Feb?) which I can personaly recommend.

In other words I.m IN.

Like I said, my plans are on the backburner, nothing definite at all.  The main reason that I'm looking at Jan(for me) is no flexibility in my leave as I'm a teacher.  I have to go in school hols, no choice in the matter.  In Jan I can also get a day crossing on the ferry, I hate sleeping on it.

March does look like a good time to go though.

I think you will have to count me out on this one as much as I would like to go the dollars wont be there and I am more than likely to be recovering from fairly major surgery on my spine because of many years of wear and tear and a Brisbane council bus.

March is best Al but hey you're in first(ish) especially if you bring the canines, besides I have a good chance , maybe, of staying ahead of an outfit!!!!
Let's work in with Al. January it is?

Post up the Cygnet and Tamar folkies dates and call it by that please Al, even if it's only you, I can show you

I'm far from definite yet believe me.  Just vague intentions not plans yet. The minster for finance needs to approve this one still.

Bay of Fires? Yep, I camped there in Jan 2009 heading south from Devonport with Marie(my wife) and Julia our friend from Connellys Marsh. Beautiful area.

Cygnet Festival is 10-12 Jan
Tamar Valley Festival (Georgetown) is 17-19 Jan

All good Al, just trying to be positive. It's a huge ask for the Q landers, who rarely cross the Murray anyway!

Have'nt been to the Cygnet fest but Tamar is a good time despite being in an industrial town, locals are very

accomodating. Still open then, other offers?

Hey everyone, I've been looking to do Tassie for a while so I'm keen , plenty of room for a night or 2 at my place for all you northerners planning on coming down. From what I've read and been told Tassie holds some of Oz 's best riding only catch can be the weather. The music festivals sound good too.

I had a fantastic three week camping ride on my modded R100 Airhead during December of '07. The place has a similar but often greener, at times more rugged, remote and more quaint feel to it than the 'Big Island'. I spent six years of my childhood there. It was a great place to be a semi-feral, barefoot, encouraged child of the bush.

If anyone has an interest in riding in Tassie I hope this pic helps make up your mind to go...

Tasmania 2014 Bichen10
Bicheno Harbour, on Tassie's East coast. The official 'mayor' of this town, Bertrand Cadart, is the French guy who built the bikes the Toecutters bikie gang, of Mad Max fame, rode.

I have a few more pics of Tasmania but unfortunately a crap internet connection tonight. Cheers.

Hi all , I am very keen to do Tassie and a trip like this needs a bit of planning ahead. We really need a date set so everyone can organize  a bit of time off work start stashing the coins and what ever else it takes to make it happen.I can't think of anything better than riding around some of Aus's best bike roads with a group of  like minded kay riders . Would be a hoot and definitely worth the effort .Sounds like some time around late jan -early feb might be the common time suitable . No pressure , just thought I would try and keep the ball bouncing on this one . As I mentioned before I 've got plenty of room at my joint for a stop over and happy to show off some of Melbournes twisties .    AB   :bball:

In all honesty, this is more of a 2015 thing for me.
At least 2 weeks off work to do it properly. I have only been apart from my family once in the last 30 years for that long.
Maybe by then I can convince Mrs Sandrakko (hard to fit Ks in to the name Sandra) to get on the back and actually enjoy the ride. Time will tell.

Definitely need 2 weeks ,
if you can be in melbourne on the sunday , ferry departs monday, so you are in devonport by tuesday and into it.
return trip , you need to be back in devonport by thursday for arrival back in melbourne on friday, leaving you the weekend to get home.
this gives you from tuesday morning till thursday evening the following week to discover the Apple Isle.
so I guess no late night partying on sunday night before getting on the ferry.Sleep

Don't forget that for those not going to Taz we should have a get together in April/May as per usual.
At Naranderra Charlie suggested kyogle and all seem to have pushed it aside for thr Tazzie trip.
Do I hear yays or nays.

I'm OK with either , 2014  or  2015, I think 15 would allow for better prep time for most who are interested.
such as leave notice , save the coins and saying bye to family.

what is the preference for accommodation   facilities in Tassie , it can get chilly,
we did pre booked cabins  last trip , works for some not sure of others.
makes it easy at the end of a days ride, and shelter and cooking facilities provided.they were relatively cheap, split the cost and it's cheaper again.
otherwise , I'm thinking of taking a trailer  to test the towbar , so camping gear and spare parts would be OK ,
keep an eye out for a trailer Small ,light  and  narrow , Even just a chassis to mount a Pod on, found one, so I'm all good to provide support .
 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Maitland-area-Rhino-Luggage-Pod-Pick-up-only-/290987206726?&pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&autorefresh=true
thats my bid btw

Tasmania 2014 Pictur10

possible overnight stops  ,
 burnie/ stanley,      Strachan / Queenstown ,        Hobart  2 nights       , swansea/ Bicheno ,    St Helens ,      Launceston

I'm sure there will be differing thoughts on venues to visit as well,  festivals , attractions, sights, etc
not everyone needs to do the same thing, it's great to share the different experiences of the trip.
some may wish to indulge in music festivals, some in chocolate , wines , the landscape , etc etc , you know where I'm going,
people like Al will have some good insight into Tassie and motorcycling as well.
any way just throwing some extra thoughts out there.

Though I mentioned Tassy for next year it is clear I will not be able to get 2 weeks off.

Kyogle sounds like a plan. Not been there though I believe I have pretty well been all around it.

Maybe a new thread Rick?

I won't be able to make the Tassie ride, but will be interested in other rides. I like the autumn ride and enjoyed the Narrandera ride immensely. Well ok, I don't actually have a running bike right now;;;;but hopefully will fix that shortly ! What a Face

I thought I had the misses almost talked into flying to/from tassy and touring with me on the bike.

She arrived home Monday with plane tickets to New York so I'm guessing tassy is out Rolling Eyes

I've had calls about the coffin everyday since I posted it. It must be too cheap Smile
He should be here shortly to pick it up.

Already got a tent, sleeping bag and mattress combo off ebay for $45 Razz

What a brilliant idea. Absolutely brilliant. My wife does not like the idea of sitting on the bike for days at a time, but a plane ticket.

And she loves New York. affraid

Solved.

Need to get the sea legs sorted for the Isle of Man trip  I'm hoping to do in 2015 . Top of my bucket list ,now that's one worth thinking about.Pick up a cheap k in Europe or pommyland and do the lot ending at the TT then sell the bike .AB
