Not sure of the market over there but his prices look to be waay over the top. That K1 he has is up for $15000 NZD.

They never go for more than about $8000 here. And the 1977 R100RS looks to have a post 1980 setup on the Airbox. It sure isn't the series 7 Alloy round one they come with. It may have even been repowered with a Post 1981 engine Shame really if it has because the difference is HUGE. Pre 1981 were reborable 5 x oversize. Post 1981 were nikasil barrels non reborable, and the price, once again, is Waay over what we pay. A Mint RS here is lucky to fetch 8 grand (4000 pound)

You would think that us, here in NZ, being a little south pacific Island nation would command a lot higher prices for this sort of thing but we don't. Just the parts is over priced. Strange huh

There seems to be more interest in the K1, not just in Ireland and UK Motorcycle magazines, but also Germany too. See below ...better if you can read German though. The K1's still kinda cool... Icon_smile

Think the K1 for sale might be asking a premium as I believe it is/was Richard Hammond's K1 he had modified.

I still want one.

Pretty much the same running gear as a standard 16V K100 but aerodynamics giving them more kph

Production     1988–1993 (6,921 units)
Power     Standard 100 hp (75 kW) @ 8,000 rpm
             USA         95 hp (71 kW) @ 8,000 rpm
Torque     74 lb·ft (100 N·m) @ 6,750 rpm
Top Speed    240.4 km/h

I'm no expert on these matters but to answer Marky's question above re: do they go faster. To quote from Mick Walkers "K-Series Motorcycles"
A comparison of the K100 and the K1 output and torque curves shows that the new four valve power unit has reached these objectives in every respect.
Engine output is up from 90 - 100 bhp @ 8000 bhp. The new design greatly improves the running smoothness, despite the increase in engine output.
The cylinder head has been substantially modified and redesigned inside. The valve size has changed, The two intake valves now measure 26.5mm
in diameter and the modification of the central position of the spark plug reduced the fuels octane requirement and enabled BMW to increase the compression
ratio. Hence the engine is more powerful with extra torque, but is more efficient and economical to run. BMW modified the cup tappets thereby increasing reliability.
As a result, valve clearance rarely needs adjustment.

There's more, but you might be better referring to the above mentioned book.

Trapper,

Thank you for the info,

The Red bike above is a K1100RS 1993.
I had a K100RS 1984 and a K100RT 1989 befor this bike, I do appreciate the 4V motor.

I checked my tappets recently (185,000k) all within limits by .02 - .03mm.

I have chipped this bike with a chip bought from the UK (takes out that little flat spot).

Apologies to the K1 boys - after all this post is about them.....

Better aerodynamics and a taller final drive ratio contribute to the higher top speed.

Slightly different topic;the one thats always confused me is the RS-16v (1000cc) having a quoted top speed of 232kmh and the K1100RS having a quoted top speed of 220kmh.  Same gearing for both bikes.

DOH I am sitting here in my own fog and thinking about not much at all.

Rev limiter maybe but more like the sales dept hoping that no one would do the sums.
I know that with 2.62 in my K1100 the needle goes to the fuel pump on the reserve light but the GPS said 237kph not 245 as it would calculate on the speedo.

More thought (a dangerous thing) did the K100 16v have the 1.67 top gear and not 1.61 as the K1100 have.
I remember checking it out for 8vand 16v but don't recall if I did it for the K100 16v.

More investigation through REAL OEM and the K100 16v has a 29 tooth gear on the input shaft and the K1100 has a 30 tooth so the 1.67 and 1.61 is correct.

237 or 245 KPH - Dam !

I got my Mk2 LeMans up to 220KPH coming back from Dayboro one fine day back in 1985, I do not intend to go that fast again, I would trust my K1100 16V to take me up there, the math is there but gents, 180KPH up around the Hinze Dam Rd, Advancetown is all I will ever ask of her.

Keep the shinny side up !
