I  have a K100 frame number 0000499 which puts in the very first batch and was probably sold as one of  if not the first in UK, I have owned it from new. Make me the oldest owner in UK??

That probably makes you the oldest living K.

We tried to have a section for those who owned their K from new. This might now be a reason to revisit that.

Now as to being the oldest owner.....maybe but more info needed. It does appear the youngest K owner is a she not a he.....

Its great to see you back so why not pop up a few photos.......

As an 8th month build of 1983, yours is truly one of the first standard K100s. But the very first models were produced as early as May of 1982, though not many of those made it to market. Production stopped, or at least was not officially recorded, until April of 1983 when the production line resumed and went into full swing.

The US market didn't get any for a while longer and those models entered as 1985 year/models in mid to late-'84. Production for the US market began in March of 1984.

It's hard to believe it has been over 31 years now! I remember seeing one for the first time and thinking it was too high tech for the motorcycling world, as I fiddled with points and carbies on my Airheads. Of course now I realise that they are as simple to maintain (relative to my increased mechanical understanding and skill) and in many ways far more reliable than my venerable old Airheads ever were.

Welcome back.

I've got chassis no 002419 but engine number seems to be 104EA39832203. Is that 2203.
Did they have matching numbers originally?

Makes me think is there is an opening for maintaining a K register based on VIN numbers. One we could add in maintenance records, photos and so on. Could be useful in time when we sell on a K. It could also be useful in retrieving a stolen K.

Just a thought.

My RT is 22575 but its an overstamped RS frame 18XXX. Its 08/84. Engine I think is 32/84. Its ealry but lots more here that are earlier.

No matching numbers.......Your engine is produced in week 39 year 1983, 2203 is the production number in that week.

tks Inge K,

So, seeing your reservoir of knowledge, I have to now ask - do either of these numbers give an indication of what part of a batch this bike was, or where it was shipped to, in the same way that Triumphs could be traced to their market by the numbers.

Go to RealOEM put the last seven digits of your VIN number into a field marked for this,
and you would see if your bike was ment for the US or EURO market.

In some cases BMWNA's (dealership personnel only) dealerspeed site will give specific info on a VIN but this is usually, but not always, a US or North American info source. However, I have seen info on Euro (rest of the world) VINs.
