So I bought a bmw k100 and I'm not sure what year it is. I'm thinking it's a 85-86 but not sure. The last time it was registered was in 2007 so was curious is it had back fees, does anyone know if I get another frame with a title will my motor effect it. Just looking for advice reason why I joined.

If you follow the advice many give, to put details of your bike including frame number in your signature or even in a post, there are experts here who can look up its build date and even which market it was built for.

Not sure about the rest (back fees and title), as there are many things different between California and Oz. Surely someone on the forum can help with that too.

Stick with the forum and you will likely find the answer to almost any question you have about a K.

Welcome to the forum.

You'll find the compliance plate rivited to the rear R/H side of the frame, just below the side cover.
The build date (MM/YY) and VIN number will be stamped on it. Also the VIN number will be stamperd on the frame just in front.

There should not be any back fees as when rego runs out the vehicle becomes unregistered. In Australia once the vehicle is unregistered for a specified length of time it then needs to undergo a more detailed roadworthy vehicle inspection before it can be registered again.

What you'll need to check though is whether there is any claim on the title of the bike. You should be able to do that at the registry office or what ever you call it in the US. Do that before you spend any money on it.

If its been sitting around for 7 years, there will be a few things that will probably need replacing before getting it on the road. There's lots of info on the portal page (L/H tab at the top).

Thanks guys I got the bike for free ran a compression check got 150-160 on all 4 cylinders. I ran into a electrical issue found out the ignition switch wasn't putting power to the electrical box. I still have an issue with the neutral light not on. I'll be posting in the forums because I need a gas tank and a fuel pump because I don't have one. I usually work on vintage Hondas so this is new for me.

As for tanks if yours has a leak below the pump most tanks are the same. I have had great success with this

What can a fuel pump be sourced for $$$ wise, and are they the same on the K1 an later bikes...

AFAIK the K1 is the same as the rest.
Price wise this is what I use in the K1100. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-x-Brand-New-Fuel-Pump-Ford-Falcon-Fairmont-Fairlane-EA-EB-ED-EF-EL-Sedan-/371104302128?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item56678a4430 the dia is smaller but nothing a couple of big zip ties wont fix.
The ones in the above post are a match and 52mm dia but smaller pumps are just as good providing they have the volume capacity and pressure.
There are a hell of a lot of pumps that will work with the LJetronic as the only requirements are volume and pressure.
The only thing special about a BMW pump is that it has BMW on the box and a super duper price.

Some things best to buy BMW, but fuel pump is not one of them. A lot of BMW parts seem common to other motors.

Anyone know where to get a good gas tank?

Take care to get the right tank for your bike.

Main variables are the mountings and the fuel level sensor.

The different fuel level devices require different wiring looms and different circuits in the speedo console.

Also I think K75 tanks are a different shape although they look similar.

Just something of which to be aware.

As someone else mentioned in another thread, shame to see that bike parted out. That said, I've got a bid or two in on some of it's bits.
