My K100 (Jul '84) is about a month older than my previous K100RT (Aug '84), even though here in the US it's called a '85 model (???).

Anyway, on the RT there was a plug for the additional instruments, which seem to fail on the naked one. Looking at quite a few schematics they all show that plug under the tank, also when they state the schematic to be for the K100.

Are there other differences I need to be aware of and does someone has the correct diagram somewhere?

Thanks, Rene

What is interesting to me is that my USA July 84 production K100RS is serial number 0040448. What is the significance of the difference in the 003 and the 004 at the beginning ?

Is there a site I can refer to that gives me that type of information on serial numbers?

@ Rob; yes, I'm aware of that one. It is applicable to early RS and RT versions and shows the connector that I haven't got as described above (Its in the schematic just left below the ground connection).

I just ran your 7/84 production, naked K100's VIN
WB1051102F0030029, which was painted 576 Polaris Metallic, on The Great Computer for the fun of it, and it was wholesaled to the selling dealer on 29th August '84 but not retailed until 15th March of 1986! So it sat for a year and a half before someone bought it. That's not the reason it'd be called an '85 model, however. In the US the 'model' year can often be well before the customary model year's starting production date of September of the year prior to the model year it's called. Confused? Not as much as visitors to the UK where 'V reg" and 'D reg' and whatever reg signifies the model year.

BTW, the selling salesman made a hundred dollar commission on the model. Cool

That's great info, and the dealer must have been happy to see it go :-)

Can you run the service history as well? recalls and services? Would be interested what has been done when :-)

Thanks, Rene.

Nuh, you can't run a service history on BMW's system, going back that far, that is. Any service records would be on the individual dealer(s) database(s). Warranty work would be wiped by now - too old - but I can tell you that there are no open recalls or campaigns on your bike. There's nothing outstanding or needing doing.

It was a sunny day when it sold, and the salesman bought a new pair of shoes with his hunnerd dollars, however.
Wink

I find that difficult to believe because every time I get a new bike it rains and gets it all dirty.
