No kangaroos here but we do seem to have a lot of sheep with death wishes! Also occasionally cows, absolutely terrifying getting low round a corner and finding a cow stood there!

I know a guy that was travelling in North Queensland and came round a corner on a bush track to see a crocadile on the road.
Not only do they bring you down but they eat you as well. Laughing

I once had an elephant wander across the road whilst travelling in Botswana.   affraid

Decided the safest option was to stop.  As he took his time, I was able to get a photo.

The worst bowel moving experience I had was trundling along a country lane one fine summers day, a tight lane with high edges and as I entered one blind bend: 'there' stood a Highland bull,
Dear lord says I or words to that effect Sod you thinks the bull I ain't moving I was here first so me and bike ended up through the edge Bull just casually walks off I could swear he had a grin on his face.

I've hit big things but never got hurt or done any real damage.  But the most memorable was travelling on my first K, I had 30km to go till I could stop for the night, the road was sandy and I had to use some speed to keep the bike stable, when the sun started to disappear the rabbits started to hop all over the road (it was a bit of a plague), I nearly came off trying to avoid them and then finally i hit one.  It was like a little pothole, no more than that.  From there on instead of trying to avoid them i just hit them if they chose to hop in the path of the bike.  I think I killed 30+ rabbits that one night.

On a midnight to dawn ride, my wife Marie just hit a cow standing in the middle of the road in the fog smashing the blinker on her 75s.  Its warmer on the road apparently.

I've seen dead gators on the side of the road in Florida.

I've come kind of close to hitting a few deer. A close call with geese now and then as well.

The only animal I've ever hit and killed was a robin in Nevada on an LT crash bar:

My beautiful K100LT! - Page 3 B8_1472

My scariest though was coming around a corner in South Dakota to find a herd of about 40 Buffalo trotting at a good pace straight down the road at me with a big fugger leading the pack.  I didn't have the time or space to turn around.  All I could do was turn off the engine and pray.  Fortunately the lead one took a sharp turn and led the herd off of the road about five feet in front of me.  Here's a pic of the last few stragglers.

Wow!  Those cows could get rather mean if they felt you were threatening the calves.  Lucky you got away unscathed.  The road dangers in Northern Ontario are moose.  You don't want to run into those guys!

I had a close encounter with a Canada goose who took a dive at me while I was doing 120 KPH on Highway 407.  Clipped my helmet, the bugger.

Boy! This post has been a wonderful evening read for me, loved all the banter AND beautiful photo's - c'mon everybody, where else have you been since the last post in July?

Becky, I want to know how my K100LT doesn't have that nice console with the gauges in it that yours has inside your screen - I want one!!

What a beautiful country we live in - no offence to the Ausie & USA riders - all you've got is sun sunny oops, we could do with a wee bit more of that right enough Cool

Roll on next summer, I can't wait to get my camping gear utilised again.

Alibear,

Give a thought to a camping trip over this way....

A few of us Irish Eccentrics had a nice camping weekend at the beginning of August, at camp site in Kilkenny that's about 90 minutes from Dublin by motorway [ferry to Holyhead], and about 3 hours from Belfast [ferry to Scotland], also by motorway. Its also about 90 minutes from Rosslare [ferry to Fishguard/Pembroke].

There have been a few exchanges with Becky about coming over here in the summer, also Paul Lipscomb and a few more on the forum, also with 88KE about a longer trip in Kilkenny. A few other forum members have done it too, Pat OD, Sagi, Bjorn. Seems there might be a possibility or organising a very casual K100 camping week or weekend at the beginning of August. I may just start up a thread for this and see what happens. The camp site is www.norevalleypark.com and is very bike friendly and good facilities like a tv room, campers kitchen, open barns for bbq, decent showers and wash areas. There are some very nice routes and this makes an excellent base. I reckon on taking a week there. We usually have a K100 meet up at Stradbally on the Saturday.....8th August for 2015.

Now you have something to look forward to!

Ha ha well me and Bikey had a rather eventful summer, we went to Germany for a week and in August there was a slight accident (it involved another forum member and a sheep) which needed some work but he recovered...however the clutch has gone now so he has been temporarily retired until i get him fixed, until then i have just got an FJR1300 (a soulless creation with no personality) which i havnt really bonded with. Started Bikey in the shed yesterday and burst out crying, i mis him so much and its only been two weeks Sad i will get him fixed and i will get him back on the road. hes on 123000 miles. and no idea about the instruments, mine just came with them! i miss heated grips and ABS....and now its cold i miss the overheating engine too!!!

I think I know how you feel Becky. I had an errand to do today over in Edinburgh, it was to deliver stuff which was too bulky for the bike, so I took my Shogun, first time I've driven in a four wheeled coffin for over a week. The minute I got back home, I just had to go out for a run on my bike, and for the last 15 mins after I just got back, I've been wiping the water droplets off her and polishing the plastics.

And 92KK, I like the sound of your camping trip in Ireland. Only been over to your lovely part of the world, once - to a men's Christian Conference in the Waterfront at Dublin (I think it was Dublin). Didn't see much of the countryside but would love to visit it one day on my bike and camp under the stars, while lying on the emerald grass.

Hi Björn,

There are a number of UK riders due to travel to Ireland next week on the 17th. Mostly BMW, but probably not all. I will be on my 1150RT rather than the K1100.

We are going for a long week end to:

Renvyle Thatched Cottages, Tullycross, Renvyle, Co. Galway

So not just Dublin (fine city though it is)  Smile

Hope the weather holds out, as last year we were a bit further North and the Journey from Dublin was in torrential rain!

Hope to meet up with some of the Irish Eccentrics at some time.

Hi Olaf,

Thanks for the invitation. We should arrive at Renvyle sometime Friday p.m. Sylvia and I will be out for a ride on the Saturday so a meet up for tea and scones sounds good!

Have visited the Burren on a few occasions, quite a strange landscape!

Have to look on the map as to where Craggy Island is.

Don't forget to book in advance. You can't call on spec. They have a website which gives directions.
It's not easy to find as it's really out in the sticks.

Ring Cheryl +353879214694! I have location on my Blackberry and Google Maps.

See what date works for you.

Bjorn, time to take Ditte to Clare and introduce her to Father Ted!

Reg might be on for this too!! Its not far from him.

For a day trip its worth going round the coast anti clockwise from Galway. If sun is out the landscape is as you say eerie.

There is a place called the Ailwee Cave and the cave is worth a visit.

A nice day makes the eating place at the Cliffs of Moher a nice spot.

Just a few ideas!

Hmmm still have Craggy Island on my Sat nav from August. The computer says a round trip of 400 plus miles.
Keep me in the loop. You never know. Might be the last big run of the year for me.

Olaf. If this looks like a possibility, maybe a new thread would be an idea. Some of the guys might miss it.
That would be an awesome event. A get together at Father Ted's!
Dammit, sucked in again!

Craggy Island in mine too and I was very close to it today.

Definitely a meet. Am using my phone at the moment but a thread is definitely a must! Looks like its a definite runner. Tea and scones at Craggy Island it is. Look forward to that.

Date? Are we looking at 18th October? Sin I mean sun required.
