Last weekend I was camping with the BMW Club (UK) at Barn Farm campsite in Derbyshire. As well as the usual farm animals they have a field of alpacas and a group of peacocks that roam freely about the site.

I thought I'd share these few pics with you.

Nice shade of blue, matches all my camping kit. cheers

Peacocks Sam_0812

Are you looking at me?  ....... with all those eyes.

Do you think he likes my bike?   Yes, I know it's not a K......but if I don't use it the battery will go flat. Peacocks 214585

Hi Paul,

Is that as much as we will see of the Vincent?

Lovely photos and your tent housekeeping skills are noted!

The bottle has the appearance of being something interesting. Anti freeze it is! Unusually though it seems to have a cork in it and that's an air cooled bike??

But the tent impresses me, its the stand up model and actually made me go search for it but then I found it was 9.8kg which seems high but then there are 4 poles which is where the weight is. .......and the table appears to have a real glass. Anyone for cucumber sandwiches? It looks a great set up.

I would say about 8 or 9pm.

On a serious note, the Vincent looks great. I like the idea of the trolley cases for saddle bags.

Yes, 92, it is a comfortable tent and, as you say, the weight is in the poles. However, as the two rear poles cross over, it makes for a very stable tent in high winds. I only put the main guy ropes on if it's going to be windy.

Have a look at the Wild Country Etesian 4, it's a similar size but weighs only 6kgs.....but they don't do it in blue. Peacocks 177381

That's the beer glass on the table, the wine glass is on the other 'table' (which happens to be my pannier frame).

Who would drink from plastic!!!? .........C'mon we are the elite K riders :geek:

Paul.

Paul those are two lovely photos and all a sign of a clearly organised mind.

The Vincent is a credit to you and a lovely bike.

I know you love the camping weekends, as I do and nothing beats it so it looks like you keep everything well organised.

I smiled. When 88KE and myself went to France I had 2 wine glasses packed in my panniers. But at Bikerboy's house there was some whiskey tasting and Waterford Crystal glasses were produced. Lismore suite no less. For those non Eccentric riders Lismore is definitely a place to visit on a K. Lismore Castle is owned by the Duke of Devonshire.

Paul I tried to edit this to say the Vincent has definitely improved with age....but I wonder as to the present whereabouts of 106 and the car alongside.

It must be such an onerous task to ride this beast just to prevent the battery from going flat.  If it all gets a bit too much for you, you only have to ask and I will come and take it for a spin; I wont even ask for any payment.

There are a certain few of us who have a full head of silvery white hair. My kids once described finding me in a crowd as just looking for a lighthouse. So it would seem that along with Sgmayhew over here we have the makings of a lighthouse club.

The Vincent is fabulous.

At a run a few years back I parked up beside a man on a Brough Superior in lovely condition and got many stories about the work and detail that goes into achieving that quality. He also seems to have the same engineering skills. Interestingly too, park beside a new superbike and you will be told a long line of statistics about what it will hopefully do, park beside the Vincent and undoubtedly you will hear about what it has done, what has been done to it and a truckload of great memories.

Many of us will love the sound of modern bikes but there is nothing like the very distinctive sounds of some of the old British singles and twins.

First, apologies to rossKKo. Peacocks 214585 .........and now you'll recognise me if I ever get to Brizzy, eh, Charlie?

92, the car was nothing to do with me; neighbours where I used to live. I think it was olive green......that's the extent of my car knowledge!

Now, the Norton, that's another matter. I built it from bits that I collected during the 60's and 70's. The basis was a 1937 engine that I bought for £2! I used it, along with various Vincents belonging to a friend, for vintage and Vincent club racing up until the mid 80's. Not being much use after I stopped racing, I sold it to a friend in Germany.

They were great days, in spite of bike scrutineering starting at 8AM. affraid

As this is in 'off topic' here's a picture of the Norton in action at Mallory Park.
Peacocks Img_0010

Back to the K outfit for this weekend's camping trip: be off in a couple of hours. cheers

Paul.
