Hi,
My name is Rob and I am the "new to me" owner of a 1985 K-100 RS.
She's was sitting for 2 years so took a bit of coaxing to start but I saw potential and so a deal was struck. Yesterday I limped her home with the clutch slipping above 3000 rpm and the clutch cable snapped as I pulled into my driveway. She got me home so I look at this as a very good sign of faith (ha, ha)
I have started an inventory of repairs starting with the drivetrain and moving on from there.
I rode for 20 years, mostly British bikes a couple of Japanese racers and one Spanish trials, and then took 20 years off, so now I am full-filling an obvious mid-life crisis with fixing up my first BMW bike.
I am very amazed with the wealth of information and interests in these machines and I hope to learn as I go with the occasional (frequent) post for ideas and help.

Hi Rob welcome to our little corner of the www I enjoyed my mid life crisis so much that I extended it into my old age and further if I can.  When I think about it my mid life crisis did come very early.
Ask away with the questions we haven't found one that has stopped us........... yet.

OK, so my LT was probably a midlife crisis thing too after a similar break from bikes. But boy don't it feel great to get back in the saddle, especially when "blessed" with such a classic.

A desire to administer TLC, conduct maintenance ourselves and then get out and ride seems to be the trade mark of many of us on this forum. No job is impossible, but most jobs are easier with some sage advice and their is plenty of that hereabouts.

Wow I was just having a look round on Google maps and Maple Ridge sure is a nice spot with the mountains as a backdrop and plenty of lakes (read fish) close by.

Oh, ya. Welcome to the forum. Got my last speeding ticket on my old R90s at Hundred Mile House.

Had my K for less than a month when the cable snapped. At the time I didn't know there were two different length cables, so ended up with the RS cable (naturally).   Rode it that way for the rest of the year until I could get it into the barn/shop over the winter. Needless to say my knowledge level has come up considerably since then.

If you haven't been here the province of B.C. is about as big as the whole U.K. but with less than 5% of the population. You can ride from the Pacific ocean and over five different mountain ranges to the rockies non-stop (if you can). Lots of old fashioned roads that follow the terrain that we all like.
A K-wopper is a euphemism for a Kenworth truck that I used to drive (model w900) so the "K" part sounded appropriate.
I am now searching for local sources for clutch parts etc. I am going to try a local dealer-shop called Shails in Langley. Has anybody used them?

I was there. In 1996 I flew a microlight (3D motorbike) from Vancouver Island to Winnipeg. BC was such a friendly place with great hospitality in every place that we landed.
Just so happens that my wife lived in Kaslo for many years before I met her.
Now our home is France, 3 times the size of the UK with the same population.
