So in trolling through evil bay lately I see a kl1100lt with a larger rear top box.
I original is great for around town etc but the larger box would give me more space for essential travelling items like bottles of red, esky etcetc.
Can anyone shed a bit of light on this subject
I have searched evil bay uk and there are some BMW top boxs which fit this category but at the prices there asking I would be better off selling body parts to try and raise the mulla
Thanks again
Mal

Mal,
From what I'v found out, the small top box fits to the small rear grill/rack on the tail section but the large box needs the mounting frame which bolts to the mounting points on the side of the bike where the pannier mounts attach. That would be part 9 and 10 in this image.

I have bought one of these -> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Oxford-Universal-Top-Box-44-litres-/190781412223?pt=AU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c6b75537f&_uhb=1

I hope to make a rack and rail assembly to mount it's mounting plate to the back of the bike.

thanks robin.

I do have accès to some métal work materials/equipment and Im now thinking about making a larger aluminium box for the rear carrier myself, that way I can make whatever size I like.

Robin ,my recent experience with the 1100LT bracketing as you have posted , was a lot of sideways wobble.
they have generous capacity, but be wary of loading them up like an esky. Mal you may be in for another shock, should you choose this style.
the main weakness is that they are relatively flexible plastic frames and this is exaggerated by heavier loading.
good luck with alternate materials.
if anything secure bracing from the usual four hole point in the cowl seems to be effective .

I wonder if they still make gearsack racks these days, they had instant street cred, if I could spell ubiquitis then i'd use it.

My rack has already been modified to strengthen it but it needs more
I will not be loading it up esky like but to give me some more cruising flexibility
I have some thoughts I will share as I progress

If its the black plastic rack surely some 6mm alloy flat bar shaped to fit it snugly would carry half the planet, some times they only need a minimum of support

I've never had a KBike with a rear rack before but I bought a complete rack off ebay tonight so we shall see. If you look at the fische for the RBikes, they have a pair of steel rods that bolt to the top of the frame, poke out the back of the tail and connect to the rack. That monsterous rear box on my R-RT can hold a mountain of heavy stuff without issue. You seem able to just keep sticking stuff into it. The KBike rear rack might benefit from something similar.
