Hi    I have just bought myself an old 86 K100 RT with 100K km's on the clock and have stripped all the fairings off with the intention of building a Cafe Racer.   Some of you are all ready cringing I know ... why remove the fairing you ask.    Well being an 86 it is pretty stuffed with numerous repairs and besides, as practical as fairings are for touring, I think they are ugly ... well this one any way!
So I have probably made myself unpopular in my intro but I am having trouble in NZ finding skilled local people willing to work on it and will be doing allot of the work myself, so hope this forum will have members willing to chuck in some advice along the way, and don't say put the fairing back on!

Cheers

Welcome.

It's your bike.  Do what the heck you want with it.

I wholeheartedly agree that RT/LT fairings are ugly - but they are practical and provide some good protection in inclement weather.

Welcome too. The fairing is entirely practical but it looks like you would have quite an outlay in work and bits to keep it. Ks can make nice naked bikes too.......so good luck with it. Keep us updated with photos etc too.

Mines an 85 RT, and yes the fairing is a bit um, germanic, but when it gets cold here I really enjoy the comfort.

The only exception I take to your post is to call an 86er "old".

Good luck with it mate, I'll be keen to see how it works for you.

Sorry RT .... middle aged but in a mid life crisis where it doesn't know if it still wants to be a Tourer or live in the past as a hot Cafe Racer.   At least "I'm" over that stage!   1st time BMW owner NZ 652573

Thanks for the Hi's guys.    After reading some of the forums I think my sense of humor will fit in nicely!
I must change my Avatar pic as I look like a snowman whose lost his carrot and rocks or though the hair is a remarkable resemblance!
