A glass shop will cut you a piece of mirror to suit. Ok, the proper mirrors are not in fat flat, they have a very slight curvature. But its only very slight. The remains of the old mirror will pop out....but use a hair dryer on it and it will separate from the backing which you can use on the new one. The glass does actually pop out its on a single ball pivot. Getting it back is not easy, don't lubricate it because if you do the mirror or will keep hopping all over the place and wont stay focussed.
Getting it back in is not easy? Never been an issue for me. Just press on the center above the ball so as not to stress the mirror glass.
Spit is a good lubricant as it dries up and goes away.
I thought we used the spit and polish on the bike? I should have said don't use an oil based lubricant......Job done for $5 and a bit of spit and polish....
